Was at a local independent, dealer today, and this glossy poster caught my eye, Immediate delight to see so-called normal people having TWO washing machines. The poster also recalled Frigilux's iconic photo of three Frigidaires in his Laundry, two washers one dryer, just like these Speed Queens, (Eugene's are not stacked.) The bleach spots are sunlight rays reflecting off the gloss. When we see three washers in a promo, then for sure, we'll know we have arrived.

When I opened her up

I thought, Oh God, Girl, you won't be able to clean anything. Look at how diminutive those fins are! What kind of turn over? How undramatic the action, blah, blah blah.

But then I remembered

The really tiny bottom fins on the Blackstone, with no loss of drama there. Would love to see the new agitator in motion. Is on any other machines? Have any of you seen it in operation?

And Lake Erie was liquid rippling silver at sunset ~

And I wanted you to see it. I missed perfect natural lighting which really highlighted the silver by a only a minute; the camera phone was way down in the kitchen.
DOI says Homer. The silver was just nuts. Next time.

I would have a SQ washer/dryer stack next to a (different) top loader if all I had was space for two machines. The top loader would have to change now and then.

The agitator in the WP looks like their impeller with a barrel. I love that the Maytag commercial selector knob is still in use. Just a kiss of history on what I'd bet is otherwise a horrifying commercial washer.

Mickeyd, beautiful pictures especially the sunset.  I wondered if the commercial Whirlpool had the same little plastic lock as the the new home use machines? The black coin op agitator made me think of Norge.   Our local Sears had the Hotpoint the sales lady said it was the only one she had that filled full of water for the rinse.  Thanks for sharing the photos with us.  arthur

I remember the saying on the machine about locking, so maybe it's the same, ( I'll check next time); and yes, both the GE and HP fill all the way up on the rinse if you click the fabric softener dial. And they fill honestly to the actual level selected for the wash cycle. We have the GE with the big SS tub in our family, and like it very much, a symphony of new and cool sounds.
 
Thanks for all the photos, mickeyd! My ultimate laundry room would have two front-load washer/dryer stacks. A mini laundromat for the single man. I could pick up another TOL Frigidaire front-loading pair for a mere $2,000 (ha-ha-ha) and make it happen. But first I need to sow my wild oats and date a few impeller-based top-loaders. Then I'll be ready to settle down, LOL.

I'll bet the mini fins on the coin-op Whirlpool agitator are due to lower water levels. Larger fins would probably tear through a lot of fabrics. It looks like what WP is calling their Agi-Peller.

I think I will hold my opinion until I see it is action. If it whips back and forth like the agitator in an F&P machine, it might be worth something. Who knows.

Interesting. Like Malcolm, I was wondering if maybe it does the 360, and has multiple moves and arc sweeps. You know some day, we'll be marveling at these new fangled alien creatures, an AGI-PELLER. It's so funny.

Eugene, you must be right about the low water levels. The machine has no water level selector and one of the lights is "Load Sensing."
Worse, there's no switch for a fabric softener-- aka, a REAL -- rinse. I can't remember if there was a softener dispenser. All of this is exciting new territory to be explored.

I enjoyed your enthusiasm for the LG Wave Force. I've heard the new ones do not do that over-the-top maneuver where the water flushes up, over, and in like Niagara Falls.
Hurry up and get that date with LG WF so we can find out. LOL
 
I looked at the instruction card for the Whirlpool coin-op and there is no mention of the use of fabric softener. It also says the lid locks 30 seconds after pressing 'start' and remains locked until the end of the cycle. In other words: No fabric softener option with this machine. And I think you're right---the Agi-Peller will move like an impeller rather than having a traditional agitation stroke.

I'm so tempted to order one of those new LG top-loaders. There must be a reason it scores 41 points higher than the Immersion Care in Consumer Reports' tests. The Immersion Care is fun, but it is not a true impeller machine. I'd miss the ability to choose the water level....but I'd bet the LG is a much better washer overall. If I can save enough nickels and dimes over the summer I just might go for one. In the meantime, I'll have to avert my eyes from the LG dealer's window display. If I see one I probably won't be able to resist. And I get my hair cut in the adjoining building, which definitely puts me in the danger zone, LOL!
