It never fails... My restorations always seem to get hung up on what should be a simple step. In this case, I still cannot get the wash/spin basket out of the outer tub. I've not run into this with any of the Westys I've worked on.
Here's the story so far: the tub bearing was known to be bad but to get to it, the wash/spin tub has to come out. This one will not budge. I've tried penetrating oils (first PB Blaster, then Aerokroil) with no success. I left the Aerokroil soaking for 3 days, but nothing has been happening.
I fear that the wash/spin tub shaft is fused to the inner part of the bearing. Notice on the picture of the new one there is an inner metal ring. When I spin the wash/spin tub on the L110, I notice that this ring spins also (see picture 3). I can't help but think that's not good....
My next thought is to try a torch; I also figure it will need some persuasion. I am afraid of pounding on the tub shaft, though. I don't want to damage the end of the shaft where the drive pulley is attached.
Has anyone ever run into something like this with a Westinghouse Laundromat before? If so, how'd you get the tub out? All suggestions, ideas, and techniques are welcome.
