Back again for another question for you experts out there...

I have a Westinghouse TL with a bad belt. I has been making alot of clicking noises so I finally pulled the back off to see what the deal was. About an inch of the belt (original by the way) has split in half. A flap of it was slapping against the suspension and otherwise was causing the tension spring to bounce around. Why the belt hasn't completely broken yet is beyond me but I'm sure it will soon.

The model # of the washer is LA495PXA1

Ser # LRF13186

I have a feeling a GE belt would work on this machine but I want to ask here first to see if anyone has one or knows where I can get a Westinghouse belt.

Thanks so much!!!

Jon

I did try to get a look at the model number but that's the part that broken off so I couldn't really see it. All I could really see what "Westinghouse" on it. I'm sure it's just your typical 70's Westinghouse V-belt. I'll have to try to take another peak.

John - if your Westinghouse uses a clutch belt design, you cannot replace it with any other type of belt. A GE would not work as the GE has a separate clutch already. You'll destroy the transmission.

Guys,

Thanks for the info. I'll give Larry a call tomorrow and see what he says. I see a lot of belts for White-Westinghouse/Frigidaire online but don't know if the newer ones work with older machines. I'll find out tomorrow though. Thanks again!

Jon-

You could also take off the belt and bring it in to WL May Co in SE Portland. Bring your model number of the washer with you too. They may very well have it in stock today and you wouldn't have to pay shipping. It's worth a check. You can also call them at 503-231-7000.

On the phone with Larry right now and he has a bunch of them. I'm so excited!!! He's going to ship me two of them. That should last me a lifetime.

He's also sending me a newer spline for my GE transmission that I put in. With that one phone call I should have both machines running like new again.

Thanks guys!!!

FYI

The part number for the Westinghouse TL belt was Q-181623.

Update...

All I can say is WOW!!!

I got the new belts in the mail today thanks to Gansky's advise. I headed down to take a look and see if I could switch them out. After about half an hour or so I had a fresh new belt in place. Switched out the hoses since one just busted and gave it a whirl.

Not only is the machine so quiet, but agitates so much faster!!! The turnover was VERY good even with the indexing. It agitates about as fast as a filter-flo now!

I'm so excited and I thank you all so much for your help! I feel like I have a new machine!!!

There you go, I knew something was wrong from your description of how that thing agitates. Now you see what I mean about how aggressive they are!

I'm so glad you are now ready to wash all those unionalls and field-hands jeans from the farm! You just need some Viva!

Hugs!
