Westinghouse TL Question

Can someone who has an older Westinghouse TL machine (early 70's) tell me how high the water level should be? The one I have in Portland I think is filling too high, but I want to be sure before I try to adjust it. Right now it's filling up all the way to the clothesguard. Nate or Roger?

I have the TL washer Repair-Master at home and can tell you for sure later this evening. Up to the clothesguard is definitely too high.

Maybe someone else can be quicker off the line with the answer...

We had a 1971 TL Westy at one time and the highest water level was just below the clothes guard...maybe an inch below it. An older Westy definitely filled higher than a Kenmore/Whirlpool does on "high" -- the Westy filled until it completely covering the tops of the ramp-style agitator vanes.

the westinghouse is ok for it to do that i had a 1974-75 machine that did that,and i have an 80s white westinghouse machine with the ramp agitator and it fills right up to the tub ring

that's good

it doesn't leak or anything like that. I just figured in the case of this machine that the wash action might actually be worse because of such a high water level. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. hehe

Both of the Westy t/l washers I had filled right up to the ring or slightly below it. Sounds like it's ready for washday!

Okay, then. The one I had filled more to like an inch below the clothesguard, but if it's okay, then the gurus have spoken

I'm sure it's ok but personally I wouldn't mind it being lower mainly because the "4lbs" setting is rather high. Maybe you can give me some info on where to adjust the machine for future reference. Thanks guys!

I can't find the TL RepairMaster at home--I dug and found two FL Westy RMs!! ARGH!

I seem to remember that the water-level adjustment screw on Westinghouse TL washers is electrically hot. For safety's sake, does anyone have some pointers? I made the adjustments on mine, but I don't want to give out info that's patently stupid or unsafe. I'd be interested to hear whether members that have done this have done it with the machine unplugged, then evaluated the results, or...?

Yah, Austin told me about the screw being hot. I pretty much always unplug stuff anyways, but that is something I probably would not have figured out until I felt that sharp pain throughout my entire body!

Anyways, I won't be back in Portland for about a week and a half so maybe I can scrounge up some info in that time. Always good to know.
