Westinghouse name/logo

After the Westinghouse Corp. as we know it, disappeared in the 1990's, it's recognizable name and logo went up for grabs. CBS, Toshiba, ViaCom have all been owners of the trademark. Then an independent entity called Westinghouse Licensing Corp. was developed to market the name.

Central air conditioning, televisions, hot water heaters, small appliances have all been sold with the Westinghouse name, but zero relation to the original company.

The bottom line is, any company can purchase the right to use the Westinghouse name and logo if they pay the licensing fee.

Appliance brand names have been bandied about to the point where they no longer have any meaning or association with the company who made them.

Sad, isn't it.

Age of newer Westinghouse microwave oven

Hi Lawrence, the manufacture date of this oven is on the tag inside the cavity it’s required by US law.

But Barry is absolutely right Westinghouse will show up on all kinds of products these days. It has nothing to do with Westinghouse that’s for sure

John,

I'm completely aware of information on data tags, but his is a product for sale on Craigslist and includes one photo - the photo that I included.  Had I really wanted to buy the microwave I could have contacted the seller and requested the missing information.  However, I have a microwave and was only struck by the appearance of the vintage logo.  And I figured folks here could explain its existence, which Barry did.
