Amazing. Like Oldsmobile in the 70's and 80's - General Electric had a habit of plastering their name everywhere on their products.
But this is a rare example of their name being omitted on this very TOL dryer, and instead carries the moniker PREMIER. Wasn't this name used on their gas dryers in '64 instead of GE?

You are correct. 'Premier' was the badge they first used on their gas models. This is definietly a TOL GE.

Ben, I believe you are correct. I didn't notice the Premier moniker at first. I recall that someone posted some while ago that Premier was GE's branding for gas dryers at first ... can't have the name General Electric on a gas dryer!
They were not sure how well gas dryers would go over so they used the Premier name for the first year. They owned that name from when they bought the Premier Vacuum Cleaner Co. so that they could market vacuum cleaners under the GE name.
Speaking of GE vacuum cleaners, did they ever have a powerhead for any model of cannister cleaner? I don't remember any such animal.

It was a TOL Swivet Top Cleaner and I believe it was only offered in 1962/63. You can see a picture of it if you buy the 1962 GE floorcare brochure off the ephemera page on this sight. This GE V14 is definitely the above dryers doppelganger.

I believe this is a 1966 "B" model. IIRC, 1966 was the first year they offered gas dryers. The good news is that this dryer would match, for the most part, '64 and '65 TOL washers. And yes, the GE TOL's from 1964-1966 had backsplashers that looked very much like contemporary Rollermatic backsplashers except that GE was still making the mistake of shining those big fluorescent lights right into the users' eyes and GM had the good sense to illuminate the controls only. And GE didn't really splash its logo or its company name all over their appliances until late in the Sixties after a CEO change. After that, the GE logo appeared on the cap of every Activator, and embossed on every Filter-pan and Jet-Swirl dispenser. They were a little more restrained before that.

Mark this dryer should be closer to 1964, GE introduced Gas Dryers under the Premier name by 1964 and maybe a little earlier. The pink under-counter GE electric dryer that Tom and I got last month was already designed to be built as a gas dryer and it was built in early 1963, so they were at least doing some serious planning for one. One of the bad things about early GE built gas dryers was they pretty much all had constant burning pilot lights, hopefully this TOL model might have electric ignition so the inside of the machine will not be a rusted mess. Good luck on getting this very rare dryer, I have never one of these in gas.

my dryer is home
out in the garage, but at the sellers I did plug in it, motor works but belt is broken, and the flourescent light came on. Run of the mill GE innards, but what a control console and lights! Some year I have to fix the date on my camera.

I will get the washer tomorrow, a MOL Filter flo from the late 70's, not a real match. But it's a suds model, damn cool. and it has the mini-wash tub and filter pan, missing the softener dispenser is all. I plugged it in and put it in spin for 12 seconds before electricians removed the fuse box in the seller's renovation home, then the rest of the washer removal was flashlights only.
Picture shows the metal-framed dryer lint filter and the hind end of my dog Abner whose hair will fill it up. When did they go plastic?
