YAY for Dream Machines

Great picture Rich! Congratulations on finally getting your ultimate dream machine. You will have to post pictures of your first wash load.

Yay! I am on cloud nine! As soon as I get the washer and dryer hooked up I will post more pictures. Yes...this machine has traveled across the country...from Jimmy in Ohio....to Greg in Omaha (who rebuilt the transmission while I watched) ...to me in Southern California. It will be pampered and cherished. And Greg....yes it did come with a sample of Downey! Thanks so much! It was such a great surprize to open the lid and find vintage detergent and softener waiting for me! This machine and the matching dryer were my favorite machines from my childhood. My grandmother had the same set and my favorite thing to do was watch it. My mom also had the same dryer, although she had a 57 Westy Laundromat to wash in. I always wished we had that Frigidaire washer too. Now I do...my dream machine. Yay!!!!

WOW

Congrats Rich on such a beautiful vintage pair! One of the pleasures in life is indeed to own a unimatic washer and you have the matching pair!

Well Rich, how great is that??!! Congratulations on finding your dream machine; good job!!

I love the history of that machine. I bet it could tell lots of great stories on the many loads of clothing it has washed. :-)

I like the box of Dash ... I've got one of those too!!

let the laundry begin!

Well, got her all hooked up yesterday and did the first load of wash...whites using Tide w/Bleach powder. Yay! 1955 Frigidaire Imperial rocks!

YAY Rich!! Looks like fun, and that was a large load too! Congratulations!

Is this hooked up as your current set or do you have modern machines you also use?

Great pictures Rich! Congratulations, I bet it must have been a thrill to see and hear those wonderful unimatic sights and sounds again, and in the 21st century no less!

Bethann, yes this machine came in pink, stradford yellow, sea-foam green and of course snowy white.

That is a beautiful machine and I know you love it! There is nothing to compare with the sound that Unimatic makes when going in to spin! What a bad-ass!The 1955 and 1956 Frigidaires were very popular here in Atlanta way back then, and I am always on the lookout! Hope you have as much fun with yours as I do with mine! By the way, years ago when I bought a few Frigidaires new, they always came with Tide! Even though I loved Tide, back then it was very suds intensive. I could never understand why Frigidaire would promote it, but I always used All or Dash. Best wishes! -Steve

Thanks Unimatic!
I have the Dryer in sea-foam green. Would there be anyone out there that would want to trade for pink? It's in great shape!I haven't even really cleaned it yet! Still looks good though! I'm doing a 50's room and everything else is Pink. I told my husband that I'm taking out the new W/D and putting this in there and he thinks I'm crazy! I told him that I'm sure that these will do a better job. Hope I don't have to eat my words!

Wow, beautiful dryer Bethann! What do you have for a vintage washer? I don't know anyone who has ever found this dryer in pink, but I certainly could be wrong.

The Frigidaire Filtrator dryers are wonderful machines and they produce very soft clothes. But they really only work well if the washer you pair it up with is a very fast spinning washer, such as a vintage Frigidaire.

Unfortunately I don't have anything yet. They threw it's mate away before I got to it! That was going to be the next thing to go and Thank God I got to it before it went!It was at a 90yr olds house that passed away.I also received a beautiful dishwasher (pink)I think it's a 55 as well.Great drop in stove and a built in oven.Everything was very very dirty but with some elbow grease and time it looks great! Hopefully in time I'll find it's mate. I've looked at some of the great pictures that everyone has posted but I don't think I've seen it in green unless it's slipped by. Have you? After I get the dryer really clean I'll post another picture.

I think Rich-Golittlesport has that exact same dryer in Sea-Foam green if memory serves. I think that dryer has also shown up in Nebraska in Stradford yellow. But I do not believe that anyone has found the matching washer in any color but "Snowy White".

Too bad you didn't get there in time to save the washer, that would have been an incredible set in sea-foam!

As soon as someone tells me how to load more than one picture at a time I would love to post them! Also there is a place here in Indy that is a salvation yard. I went to it looking for a fridge, and I think there is quite a few things that would trip everyones trigger. Now that I know there are passionate W/D fans I will keep my eyes open for everyone as well! Last time I was there I know I seen 40 or 50 W/D.

Holy Sherwood Green!

Hi Bethann!
I have the same dryer as you do! Yes, I have two 1955 Filtrators at the moment! But since I have the set in white now, I'm going to sell my Sherwood Green Filtrator to a fellow appliance buff. 1955 was the first year Frigidaire offered washers and dryers in colors. Good luck on your hunt!

Hi Rich!
Glad you received your set!, I didn't realize that the color name is Sherwood green,I always thought it was Sea-Foam! Love that oven! Is that a 62?

Congratulations Bethann

Nice Dryer and its so nice to hear someone else praise the 1950 Appliance Gods!!!

You will love that dryer, don't be scared about how hot everything feels when you haul it out. I have never yet shrunk anything in a Filtrator Dryer---EVEN WOOL Socks!! They dry way better than air blower dryers!

Enjoy and I hope you find you match at the salvage yard!
