Coffee cake and Heart attack in a pan (bread, eggs, sausage, cheese, and lots of butter baked together). Deviled eggs of course!

That sounds amazing!

I wanted to do brunch but my son is allergic to eggs (and peanuts) and I was afraid that there wouldn't be too much on the menu for him to eat. No eggs, pancakes, waffles, cakes, cookies, some breads, etc. Plus, I'd have to be a pain and ask the waiter/manager about every little thing he wanted to eat. I didn't want to have to use the Epi Pen on Easter. :(

So instead, I ran to the grocery store this morning and picked out a few things. We are having a spiral cut ham, hash brown cassarole, green bean cassarole, broccoli, asparagus, and garlic bread. My kids are really into green veggies!

I wanted the easiness of going to a resturant but it's nice to be able to make it all myself and have the house smell so good!

up at 4am....

at church by 5:30 so I could run thru my two hymns before anyone else was around.
Sing with the choir/play organ for 6:30 & 10:30 am services, help serve breakfast in between services 8-10am
Took a shower when I got home to get the frying bacon smell off me, and hit the couch after that.
Almost 3:45pm, woke up about 3:30.. have laundry to do and Jack wants out.
Should call the parents too, they returned home yesterday from a 2 week vacation to Australia.
Nice quiet, peaceful day!

For breakfast,

Peanut butter (Jif creamy!) on Keebler Club crackers, with a caffeine free Diet Coke.

Coffee hour at church: one cup of bad black decaf, two store cookies of some indeterminate nature.
(I was crashing, and needed carbs.)

Communion went well, though our Interim Senior Minister accidentally forgot to give us Deacons the Bread of Life when we returned to the altar. She did remember to give us the Cup of the Covenant, however.

I am also Flower Coordinator (about to rotate out, praised be!), and I got a lot of compliments on how I arranged the Easter lilies, hyacinths, and daffodils in the sanctuary and behind the altar. Behind the altar, I had one Easter lily flanked by two pink hyacinths.....

Dinner? I was at my friend Linn's. Her former husband had the children, so I cooked her favourite of my dishes, "Spanish" Rice. In the Avocado Green Baycraft electric skillet PeteK sent last year.
Turned out quite well.

We then watched a very cute movie, "Nurse Betty." Morgan Freeman was never more appealing.

It has been a good day, so far.

Green veggies are really good when they are cooked fresh, and with a few spices. I think the reason most kids have an aversion to them is because most of them have only eaten frozen, or canned stuff that tastes terrible....I can't blame them for not wanting it!

We had a pretty big church service, and I saw a lot of folks I haven't seen for a while, including some friends I was in the youth group together with and we lost touch over the years. We had lots of music, as the choir director did a few of the songs from the musical we performed last weekend. All the while church was going on (10:30 service for us Baptists that gets our around noonish) I set the timer on Mom's stove to start the oven up at 11:30 and start warming up the dishes for our meal. This is the first big meal she's had over at her house since she had her kitchen renovated. She was really excited about being able to use all her new toys!

My family's easter meal involved a few green veggies too! My mom pressure-cooked some collard greens in her old Mirro pressure cooker with a few pieces of bacon. My sister made green been casserole. Our family also did a spiral cut ham for easter dinner too. I prepared some long-grain rice with little brocolli cloves in it. My sister's kids ate everything up, and wanted more!

The nice thing about it was that we didn't hafta stand around doing dishes after the meal. We just threw them all into Mom's new Kitchenaid DW, pushed the button, and then went outside and hid easter eggs for the kids. They had a blast! Later on, we all went down to Monument avenue for the big Easter block party. That, too was great. Lots of music and other performances, an "easter bonnet" an pet contest, plus the Hershey "kiss" truck, and the "peeps" truck was also there. We all had a great time, and the rain held out long enough for us to all get home and finish our easter festivities!
 
Appetizers of, assorted cheeses, Genoa w/ fennell, peppers stuffed with Proscuitto and Provolone, fresh Mozz, olives, roasted peppers. Oh,,, and Apple Martini's!!!

Dinner was:
Spiral glazed ham prepared by Moi.
Pommes Savoyarrdes (potato's cooked in cream and garlic)
Carrot Souffle with nut struesle topping.
Green Beans with sauteed mushrooms and garlic.
Good old baked beans (prepared also by Moi)
Green leafy salad.
Crusty bread.
Plus a great bottle of Pouilly-Fuisse'.
Desert was homemade cheescake with Cherry sauce.

As I listen to the sounds of my grandmother's table linens being washed in the 1-18 with some vintage Blue Cheer I can say that it was a grand day. Beautiful early morning church service where I saw at least 4 people I went to grammar school with - also a perfect day with bright sunshine and 65 degrees. Sixteen of us strong at the table - mixture of family and some lifelong friends and neighbors. A few little ones to remind us that life goes full circle. Plowed through a lot of food. Sausage dip, bocconcini (marinated mozzarella knots), roasted olives with lemon and fennel, hummus for the 2 vegetarians and a friend's homemade soppressata started us off. Then on to the first course of linguine with pesto (lasagne was traditional with my mother, but this is a bit lighter), then on to the marinated and grilled pork loin, poached salmon ( again the vegetarians loved this...), roasted asparagus, baked orange and red beets with a tarragon dressing, and "Party Potatoes Beverly" (smoothly mashed potatoes with cream cheese, butter, sour cream, chives and a touch of garlic, then baked in the oven. A big romaine and arugula salad to finish us off (you know we Italians eat salad after the meal to help digest). Lots of great wine thanks to my neighbor and some great bread from Addeo Brothers in the Bronx. The flowers were beautiful, the table looked fantastic with my mothers pastel tinted Venetian stemware on the pale pink cloth and napkins. Most important though was the lively conversation and laughter of people who were truly thankful to be together, continuing the tradition of our parents who were all best friends and neighbors for many years. All of the parents are gone now and there were a few toasts that made us well up. But we are all at the point where we can recall our parents' antics with more laughter than tears - I guess they did their job well and we all watch out for each other. What better tribute?

To end the meal, my hazelnut biscotti, espresso and a delightful tangerine/pomegranate sorbet. It was a lot of work, but loads of fun. Nothing better than bringing people together on the most beautiful Easter Sundays (weather wise) in a long time.................

Lunch - Power Bar

Dinner - Pork Egg Foo Young (the pork was the Easter part), Chinese delivery.
 
NOW we know how Unimatic maintains that Adonis figure...

Im having Beef&Broccoli, spicy, with shrimp fried rice.
 
Potluck at work

worked all day, had a potluck, I made my famous Orange jello/Cool whip/mandarin orange pie in a ready made graham cracker pie crust.....because i'm a terrible cook and it's one thing i can't burn!

There was also a Honey baked Ham, yams, potato and macaroni salads, won ton soup, baked beans,ambrosia, home made apple sauce, rolls, cup cakes, good thing we have insulin in the fridge!

Also wore a lavender scrub top with white pants! Looked like a giant easter egg ( or the gay M&M!)
 
Roast beef, oven fries, broccoli.

Something else I can't remember--I'd have to check the fridge.

Meals are simple when I have to do them myself!

Our family went out for brunch. Easter is the one holiday we eat out. The restaurant we went to had a very traditional Polish touch to it. They had czarnina, chicken soup with kluski noodles, and homemade kielbasa just to name a few. For those who don't know, czarnina is a soup made with duck or goose blood, broth, raisins, dumplings, and meat from whichever bird is used. It is actually quite good, a little on the sweet side. It is my spring tonic.
 
Played the organ for the 6:30 and 10:30 services. We did a organ and piano duet and the the last 2 pages fell off and down on the pedalboard during the service. I just reached down and picked it up. kind of a mess for a few sec. until we got back together again. Had breakfast at church after that. Egg casserole, donuts,rolls, orange and apple juice.
Went home and slept to around 3:30 and let Fred(my greyhound) out. Had a real quiet day. Gary
 
Had dinner with an aunt and uncle. Spiral ham, smoked kielbasa, and my contribution, cornflake potatoes (a diet-buster casserole I save for special occasions).

Started out with liquid appetizers =/- 8 12 oz Tecates hehe

BBQ - Grilled Pork ribs
Fajita chicken w/all the "trimmings"
Deviled juevos
Chili con Queso dip (scorched by moi/drunk)
Spinach Dip
And Banana Pudding (scorched by moi)

Don't drink and cook, folks.

Actually, it all came out pretty good, and we were stuffed silly afterwards, and could not move.
