I've been considering starting a new Photo Thread (and I guess I've just done it). Recently, a few AW.org members have posted pictures of themselves and their workplaces, and I thought it might be interesting to post pictures of our workplaces, and of what we do all day <br
The few pictures of members' workplaces that I've seen so far leave my workplace looking kind of shabby, but it's been home for me for the last 18 years or so. If anyone joins in, I have some more interesting (I hope) views that I've been working on. <br
Anyway, show us your workplace, and let us know what you do all day <br

A Nikon N60

This one needed a new winding base. The base (at the bottom of the picture) has posts molded onto it, on which the gears rotate. Sometimes these posts break off, and the base needs replacement. <br

A Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT

You need to be careful inserting your CF card, or you'll bend or break off the pins in the camera. It's kind of expensive to fix, so people seldom screw them up twice <br
The new CF Card Socket is at the lower right of the picture <br

Here's a Canon EOS 1-D

Professional photographers shoot thousands of images a month. Even the professional models of camera are considered Beyond Repair by the manufacturers after 100,000 shots, but we'll happily replace a worn-out shutter -- for a price <br
The new shutter is in the lower left corner of this image <br
So, what do YOU do <br

I'm a Macintosh technician and database administrator. Two iMacs on the left are for image development, the two screens in the center are on my quad Mac Pro, and the ibook on the side is a machine I'm updating. You can see my old 12" G4 PowerBook behind the iBook. The Dell display is attached to my Mac, because I like the aspect ratio compared to the Apple one.

I'm glad that somebody does tech support, and I'm glad it's not me! Our company has a strict policy that only the office people talk to customers, and the techs get to spend their time working (and laughing at the idiots that the office people are dealing with) <br
Madison's great, even though it seems to get bigger and uglier every year -- still idyllic by most standards though. <br
Every time I think of moving somewhere without cold and snow, I try to imagine somewhere I'd be happier. So far, I haven't found anything <br

Tech support

Chach, I feel your pain, but someone's gotta do it. <br
"My email doesn't work this morning...&quot <br
I know you get thi <br
"EVER SINCE you fixed the computer my (application) stopped working... blah blah blah&quot <br <br
"resolve their computer issues and learn to use their software applications&quot <br
Losing battle.

Shoot me NOW! I can't stand it anymore!

"My computer isn't working"
"What model do you have&quot
"I dont' know, it's dark in here"
"Turn on a light"
"There is a blackout in here and in the neighborhood" <br
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! <br <br

Where in Little Rock are you? Little Rock is home for me, I miss it terribly and would move back tomorrow if I could.

Pete: <br
Before 9/11 that could have been a possibility. Sometimes we could allow "guests" in the jumpseat during a flight. But 9/11 changed all that. Hell, even if you are a pilot you have to be checked out in a homeland security database to ride there. And not all Captains allow jump seat riders at all, even if they are qualified to be up there.

My first 'real' job was in radio, and I've always loved the cool toys involved with the industry. Wonderful picture link. Thanks <br
Whirlcool/Petek <br
No way. You're not getting me up there. I don't want to see. I don't want to know. Like Emily Hartley, I'll just keep repeating, "Tall bus -- Tall bus" until it's all over <br

Kevin-your work on repairing cameras looks fascinating-esp compared to the monsters I have to work on.Figure some folks will want their hi end cameras repaired by a good technician.-esp commercial photographers.Just hope my work lasts-other SW transmitter sites have been closed due to budgets.fortunately the demand for SW both on the receiver end and programming sides has actually INCREASED.For many listners satellite receivers are expensive or the service isn't available.I visited a factory that builds SW transmitters and commercial ones not to long ago. They were in the process of filling orders for several oversees customers. They built some of the transmitters we use-the ones that are 60 years old.-Continental Electronics.Continental and Harris are the largest radio equipment suppliers.RCA is no longer in the commercial radio business.I have worked on lots of RCA transmitters.I like old transmitters and old appliances!

Rex <br
When I was at WIBA, we had an RCA BTA-5H, which was a gorgeous and impressive monster. It got replaced with a Harris solid-state box which was both reliable and utterly uninteresting. We also had a nice looking Collins back-up transmitter which was about 1kW <br
The digital camera era has definitely led to some lean years in camera repair, but things are starting to settle down -- the parts and information are increasingly available, and customers are starting to hang on to their 'old' cameras instead of replacing them whenever they break. And some people are digging out their film cameras because they take better pictures <br

I have a cousin who is a semi pro photographer, and she is selling off her TOL Nikon digital camera and going back to film. She said that she can't get the depth in digital that you can in film. Digital photos look kind of flat compared to film. <br
I imagine with the switch to digital television the market for television transmitters is booming with everyone trying to get up and running on digital when the change comes next year. <br
MrWash:
Congratulations on your new job! You'll love it. Seeing exciting destinations, meeting interesting people. Also you'll be sleeping in many beds other than your own, working ungodly hours and be able to say "Would you like something to drink" in your sleep!

@ whirlcool: Yes, I know that all. When I returned from my last holiday (Tunesia), a passenger complained about the menu on board and he didn't stop to complain. The stewardess seemed to be very angry but smiled all the time. I just thought "welcome to your new job" *lol*

MrWas <br
In the late 70's stewards/stewardess' began calling themselves flight attendants, or F/A's for short. I think if you called any of them a stewardess, they wouldn't like it these days.
Just keep a smiling. It's much harder to be nasty to a F/A when they have a pleasant smile on their face. And remember some people just can't be pleased at all.
I often hear "I'm not flying your airline ever again!" from people. Usually they are the upper echelon frequent flyers. I tell them that if that is true, which charity would you like us to donate your miles to since you won't be needing them anymore. That always shuts them up!

The view out my window, showing the fabulous Gold Medal Flour neon sign that flashes all night long, as well as the Guthrie theatre.

Cant really post nice pictures of my office, its a typical 80s supermarket office with thermoplastic floor tiles, vile minty greeny bluey walls and grey filing cabinets hiding a Wetrok floor polisher. Shelves of files, paperwork and stuff. Im a Stock Control Officer (over Frozen Foods and Beers Wines and Spirits -my qualifications in Drink service and knowlege comes in handy for me to be a wine advisor too) for Tesco Crewe. Spend most of my time on the shop floor with a PDA tapping in figures and counting stock. Measuring up shelf space and generating stock to fill various fixtures. I have ultimate power too, to enter the Sales Based Ordering system and delete or adjust stocking dates for any product. Also in my power to delete any product I see fit to delete. Now do I make Tesco Crewe a non P&G product stocking store? LOL! Rob
