What Else Do You Collect

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

What a delightful collection of vintage painted pitchers and tumblers you have John! Thanks for sharing them here.

When I was a little boy in the 50’s and early 60’s I just loved it when I was at someones home that had pitchers and glasses like these. To me it was just like being a part of a magazine ad, movie or TV show where these beautiful pitchers and glasses were displayed.

I one that I coveted the most, which really doesn't necessarily relate to your wonderful collection, was the Kool Aid pitcher with the smiling face traced in the frosty glass. To a kid that was the last word, and I begged Mom to get one, to no avail. But she did get I and my siblings Jimminy Cricket cups, with eyes that seemed to blink when you tipped them to your mouth to drink, so that was some concession on her part,LOL.

I have a nice collection of oscillating fans that I collected over time and I have to force myself not to buy anymore when I see one. I cleaned and fixed them up where needed. I store them in the winter and bring them out in the spring, when ever it gets here. 16 oscillating fans, 2 hassock, 3 20" box fans, 3 smaller box fans, and a vornado twin window fan. I also have several coffee pots that are in rotation along with several toasters that I like to use. When we go out, when we could I really have to say no and not buy anymore.

As you can tell by my name, I also collect fans. Desk, oscillating and box fans mainly, also ceiling fans. I also like old light fixtures and electrical parts. Recently I've started collecting a few street lights too. Also vacuum cleaners.

John,

Very nice!
That's one thing that I don't have a collection of, which might be easier than listing what all I DO have collections of.
I'm actually more of a hoarder, with an obsessive personality.
Off the top of my head:

Cars; which I can't afford to collect, so I've started parting with some, before they all decay.

Diecast vehicles. Hundreds.

Kerosene lanterns.

1960s-1980s bicycles.

Vacuum cleaners. Mostly plastic bodied Electroluxes, with a few Hoovers thrown in. Because; ooohhh...shiny.

Small collection of percolators and hot pots.

Vintage ads and advertising items.

Vintage telephones.

My word. I AM a hoarder! It drives it home, trying to remember everything to list.
Two sad facts:
1) I'm probably forgetting something.
2) If I had more money and space, there would be more.
It might be time for me to get some help.

LOL Barry!

I'm afraid to start listing what we have collections of.....

Typewriters

Christmas lights/decorations

Percolators (hence the moniker Rich picked out for the site)

Staplers

Pencil sharpeners

Check protectors

Pyrex

Cameras

Those reverse-painted, lit, framed glass wall lights

Silver tableware

Sheffield

Old burglar alarms

Lighting

... I'm afraid, after listing those, how many other collections I'm forgetting about (blocking out!). I'll ask Rich to fill in blanks.

See? That's the great thing about this site. This is the real "judgement free zone".
Cole's post reminded me, I also have a few vintage fans. Not many.
Also, a few mixers. Both stand and hand-held. Again, not many, but more than a normal person would have.
And, I had overlooked flashing road construction barricade lights. Quite a few of those.

Other things I collect

Other that what so many of us have like the vintage mixers, coffeemakers and the like I have a collection of salt spoons that are very pretty when they are polished (my bad). I have a few salt cellars to go with them. I also collect Cream and Sugar servers. I only keep a few on display at my husband's request.

In the attic I have a large collection of tea cups. I haven't unpacked them since we moved because I'm not sure where I want to put them just yet.

Slow Cookers from 70s - 90s, I have about 18 of them some NIB

All very nice!

They say colect what you like, not only for future values. It's true. I have some Hiutchenruether, Haviland, and Noritake china. Some Waterford. I have a few vintage vac's. I also collect and model Marklin, Roco, Fleischman, Lima, and Piko model ho scale trains. Also Herpa, Wiking, and Rietze ho scale cars and trucks from Germany. Too many to bother posting pics.

Mike,

Model trains!
That's one of the things that I know I would go crazy with, if I had the aforementioned money and space.
I enjoy watching the real thing, and I would love to have a huge, realistic layout.
That's one that I've been able to resist even dabbling in, because I know there's no way I could do it "right".

Well You asked.....

Cookware, Mostly vintage aluminum, percolators and vacuum coffee makers, waffle irons, toasters, electric griddles, electric frying pans, irons, pressure cookers, Tupperware, mixers around 500 blenders probably 150 vacuums between 600 and a thousand, stoves refrigerators and tons of cook books, also records and cabinet model stereos, Donald collects vintage Christmas lighting, The entiire upstairs of the house is a museum of nothing but vintage Christmas The basement is full of vacuums ,

I collect small appliances because I have limited storage living in a condo/townhouse. I started with coffeepots, and at one time had over 20, I lost count. Now I have about 10, I gave away the rest. I also have a small collection of hand mixers and toasters.

Since I began doing the dishes by hand over two years ago I’ve also developed a collection of dish drying racks and drainboards. I rotate them, so they all get used. Also have 4 vacuum cleaners.

I mainly like to acquire these things to see how they work or whether or not I like them. Once the novelty wears off I can let them go to someone else to enjoy, they’ve served their purpose, the money has already been spent anyway, and I won’t be getting it back.

Calgon, take me away !!

Too much stuff and its beginning to feel like an albatross around my neck. I've gotten rid of most of my vacuums, perhaps 8 left I wish would vanish, a few dozen mixers and a few dozen blenders, maybe 40 typewriters but I enjoy those still, then just a mish mash of everything, record players, small appliances, bric a brac, some old toys, trains, fans, radios, a few portable tvs, phones. uugghh.

I have 4 sewing machines...ancient, old, recent, and new...and I'd have more if I had the room for them! 5 vacuums. Tony collects Princess House crystal, specifically the Heritage pattern. I love cast iron cookware...I have most of my grandmother's...some of those were her mother's.
