Some of my loves........
Shellfish. Clams, scallops, shrimp, lobster.
Peanut butter, but only smooth Jif.
Raw vegetables, dip optional, and I mean optional. Carrots, celery, broccoli, red bell peppers, zuchinni, cauliflower.
Potatoes. My heritage is 50% Welsh, 50% German. Baked, mashed, twice baked, pan-fried. Not the casserole at Cracker Barrel. No cheese at Waffle House. McDonald's fries, but only if they are hot, and I am inside the store. You do not have to say "no salt," they really would rather you didn't. If you ask for fresh, and are willing to wait the few minutes, most will be happy to comply.
Pears. As a treat, Del Monte sliced, in syrup.
Beef, no more than medium rare. Most cuts of pork. Chicken, but mostly thighs, legs, and wings.
Rice. Uncle Ben's, wild rice, basmati, risotto. Yes, I am a carbohydrate......
Tuna, halibut, flounder, salmon.
Bananas, but just a minute after they turned yellow. Splotchy ones go into baked goods or the bin.
Red raspberries. When my market offers them 2 for $6.00, that's all I have for the next meal.
Bacon, but not ham. Most hams around here just taste too salty to me.
All things citrus. Clementines get me through winter. Key lime pie gets me through heartbreak.
My baking. I am almost always disappointed by store bought cookies, cakes, and pies. A notable exception is Pepperidge Farm Coconut cake and two other people with forks.
Soups, generally homemade. I think I've posted my mushroom soup here. I know I have posted my Ma's potato soup..... When I do open a can, it's generally a Progresso can.
Corn. On the cob, creamed..but home done, so I can select the texture. Cornbread, pan cooked corn fritters/cakes/dodgers, not deep fried.
"No salt added" canned tastes much fresher than the salted variety. Same is true with green beans.
My friend Marsha's shrimp and barley salad. Most salads. Green salad with dijon vinaigrette (lemon juice, Grey Poupon, tiny pinch salt, and Colavita olive oil).
Avocados.
Pistachios, cashews, walnuts, pecans, macadamias.
I have delveloped a slight, but real allergy to chocolate. Maybe more of a sensitivity. However.......it's not fun to live with.
Pastas..spagh bolognese, butter with garlic.........
I live alone, but no longer drive, and the nearest full line supermarket is 3 miles away, so I do rely on canned, bottled, and frozen more than I would always like.
