Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

kenmore women:

Cher in Mask. Annie Potts in Jumping Jack Flash. Annie used vintage powdered AJAX in her Kenmore, IIRC, and lots of it, until Whoopi brought it to her attention.

Maytag women

Goldie Hawn in OVERBOARD, lucky Goldie had a maytag wringer, till Kurt Russell bought her a new Maytag, complete with black panel and right side timer. A similar Maytag that looked out of place to me was Sean Penn's Mom in AT CLOSE RANGE, seemed Sean's mom was of very limited financial means, but she sure had a fairly new Maytag.. I always loved the movie lighting in AT CLOSE RANGE, not to mention a great soundtrack.

Here's an obscure one

The horror flick Silent Scream (1980) features a white Speed Queen top-loader and unknown dryer. They're in several scenes, used on camera, but then in the world's biggest continuity gaffe, a close-up shows a matched GE set!

Dolores Claiborne (Kathy Bates is a maid using a tipical american washer-dryer).

It's a wonderful movie but can't remember the brand of the washer (!)

"Hello Down There" with Tony Randall and Janet Leigh -- Westinghouse FL like Pearl Bailey spoke for.

"National Lampoon's Holiday Reunion" -- Woodrow Snider (Brian Cranston from Malcolm in the Middle) is a washer repair guy who heals his machines. The front lawn is littered with machines and it's really difficult to figure out the brands.

"Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" -- Maytag AMP next to the water heater off the kitchen.

Poor Delores

Poor Delores sure did use a kenmore at Vera Donovans, but she had to tramp up and down the hill for the south wind in the sheets, Kathy Bates (Delores) had a wringer at her home, might of been a sq wringer seem to remember it being round.

This movie was filmed in U.K.and was about the restoration of an old FRIGIDAIRE equipped coin laundry. Before it was restored there were thugs who would come in and rob and damage these beautiful machines!!! The original machines got replaced with front loaders and even though the movie focussed more on the love relationship of two gay men,I was more worried about the damages being done to the washers and dryers than the outcome of their (the two gay men)love relationship.Another fun washer scene was the one in the movie "Yours,Mine, and Ours"starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. One scene shows her doing laundry in her basement. They had a laundry shoot and I don't remember if their washer and dryer were front loading Laundromats or Maytags.Another movie Henry Fonda starred in with Sophia Lauren was I think called "Houseboat".In this movie there is a real neat scene where Henry goes to a "Licensed Westinghouse Laundromat equipped"coin laundry to do the wash and sits and talks to the women there as the camera pans the entire shop including the Laundromat washers,Ald-dry dryers,Ald-Spin extractors, and old vending machines as well as old Laundromat use and care directions on the wall!

Yours, Mine, and Ours

Lucille was equipped with multiple Maytags. Funny to think about it---if the producers of the movie had done their homework, they might have been Westinghouse washers. Always bothered me about that movie that they had a raft of top loaders instead of a 25 or 35 pound front loader and one toploader. If I were (Heaven forbid!) washing for a family that large..... Also, I remember that there wasn't a dishwasher(s) in the kitchen-- would have been the thing for a small Hobart.

oh, well
