What is the name

of the round "caps" found in the centre of coil burners. I would like to replace some rusted ones on a stove I picked up.

When I try to google them, I am using the search term of:

"coil element caps" and all I get are the decorative burner covers that people use to cover the whole element.

I hope I'm not being too esorteric in my description!

I don't think I've ever seen them available separately.

I concur with Kenny.  Your best bet would be to harvest one off of a pile of scrap appliances.

OK daft question.......

Are the caps not part of the tripod that supports the burner/ring?

They were on most electric coil stoves !! But that may have been just the ones this side the pond...

The only caps I have ever seen are on GE built ranges with coil and it was just the GE Calrod logo. My grandmother, and my mom had Hotpoint ranges with the Calrod caps in the center. Newer coil ranges have that thermal limiter built right in the center much like that “ burner with a brain” or SensiTemp...what was once old is new again....

I guess I could remove them or replace the burner (seems wasteful)...No appliance graveyards near me!

My buddy's Frigidaire cooktop has a 6" coil that's missing its center cap.  How it detached I don't know, but that big void in the center does bother me.  The caps on the other burners seem to be on there to stay, so I think a cap would get bent up trying to remove it. 

 

The only option may be to replace the whole coil.  You could probably find used ones on eBay that have been tested, but I don't think they cost that much on a hanging card at ACE/HD/Lowes brand new, and with shipping tacked on to an eBay purchase, the local retailer route could end up costing you less.

We just replaced an element with an inexpensive one from Amazon; the element included a center medallion but noticed that it wasn't porcelain enamel so it became rather dull and looked a bit like the coil material.
