What is your Favorite Detergent/Cleaner Scent?

Tide Original powder is my all time favorite. They changed the scent of Original Gain a few years back and it smells more sickening then the wonderful fresh fragrance it used to have....though I may give it a shot again in case it's just me. Have used Gain Apple Mango Tango powder recently and enjoyed it.

I grew up with Arm & Hammer Clean Burst liquid detergent and Downy Mountain Spring. That detergent never left much of a scent and the smell of Mountain Spring is so strongly engrained in my senses that I'm permanently numbed to it. Whenever it was up to me I always picked Tide and anything but Mountain Spring fabric softener, and always Downy, never could stand the sickening aromas of other brands.

Whatever the laundry in Mexico used when I visited was BY FAR the best smelling detergent ever....like Tide on crack...

I like

the lavender that is used in Method's spray cleaner.

One I hate is the "lavender" of Fabuloso. I was so glad when I used the last of that!

I'm liking the fairly light scent of all's Oxy Pacs.

I loved the scent of Dash. Takes me back to my Grandma`s when I was a kid.
Original Gain was always a favorite.
Original Arm&Hammer. My Mom used it often.
Suavitel Island Splash Softener
Dreft Detergent
And most recently....Wisk Fresh Breeze Detergent.
Oh and I almost forgot....Prell Shampoo.

The original scent of Oxydol reminds me of my Grandma Wilde and her 1950 Speed Queen wringer chugging away.  The smell of the freshly washed laundry hanging on the clothesline in the warm sunshine.  That is a fragrance I associate with alot of great memories at her house.

When I was a kid my mom always used Hexol. I loved the smell of that stuff. It was pretty much my favorite scent right up until they came out with Jade East. I used a lot of Pinesol and Hexol to clean my third floor flat in San Francisco. This place had it's own separate street entrance and when friends would come over a "select" number of them would refuse to come up saying "it smells like the Free Clinic up there," a place I never visited due to my nun-like innocent lifestyle.

Joe, your story reminded me of Barbicide, the blue disinfectant liquid barbers keep their tools in. Years ago a friend (who always smelled so fantastic I finally asked what his secret was) clued me in on its almost-aphrodesiac properties, especially when mixed with small bits of decent cologne. Downright yummy. It's technically a skin irritant and the stuff is very strong, so don't overdo it.

My all time favorite scent was the original Salvo laundry tablets. Very clean and not overbearing. And it was low sudsing!! I still miss the smell.
Right now I'm using original scent HEB brand. HEB is a state wide grocery here in Texas. They have run everyone out, including Albertsons. The HEB brand smells good and cleans up well. Still, I would love to find a good low sudsing detergent, that cleans good.
Recently discovered liquid Oxydol at Wal-Mart of all places, it was only $1.00 so I bought a bottle. It cleaned well actually, but I think faded my dark clothes so I switched back to HEB. Scent was stronger than I remembered when I was growing up.

Dishwashing detergent, probably Ivory was my favorite. Liked Joy as well. I'm using the HEB brand as well, its not half bad either. Scent is pleasant.

Strange, but I'm not too hip on bleach smelling stuff. For my bathroom I use Lysol spray.

I miss Salvo.

Isn't Hexol made in SF or the Bay Area? Growing up there I remember how it was used copiously at our Catholic elementary school for cleaning bathrooms, etc.

I also seem to remember some people using it for first aid or feminine hygiene related issues. I can't imagine it would be all that healthy for uses other than cleaning. From what I remember it was very strong.

I'm not sure where Hexol is made but apparently it's still available. I do remember that it was super-concentrated so a little went a long way. I like original scent Pinesol but I recall members saying it's been changed over the years. Daine Amos, the Pinesol lady is one of my favorites.

Who put that bottle of Hexol in here!!!

Growing up I was raised on P&G products and still use them today. Tide was the most used and we have tried every variation. My favorite scents in order are Clean Breeze, Fresh Scent (Coldwater), and Original all in liquid forms. The powders smell good too. I'm not too big on many others, especially cheap detergents. Downy has always been used in either April Fresh or Clean Breeze but a new favorite has risen to the top. The Infusions Citrus Spice smells really good when dried, not really in the bottle. My favorite combos are any of the listed Tides and Downy Clean Breeze and then the Tide Original with the Citrus Spice.

The Gain scent is okay in moderation with things like Swiffer products etc. Cascade action packs smell good also in the fresh scent. I like to see other peoples opinions as I want to try more products and branch out!

So that is what happened to Pine sol  they took the pine oil out of it. I knew that something happened when I went to use some and it made me about vomit from the smell that is why I don't buy it any more. Is there any pine cleaners that contain pine and have a better scent?

Pine Cleaners:

If you will look in dollar and discount stores, they usually carry Pine-Sol clones for not too much money. You're looking for something that contains a certain percentage of pine oil. I think it's something like 8.6% or something like that. It's the same amount that was in Pine-Sol before that product was changed. Dollar General and Family Dollar are your best bets.

Don't ask me why discount stores can afford to put real pine oil in their products when Pine-Sol says they "can't" any more; they've said the supply of pine oil available is not equal to their needs.

All I can say about that is that the new scent is not equal to the job of killing the smell of B.S.

Real Pine Oil

Costs money same as lavender and other natural oils. Why go through that expense when you can cheap out with synthetic? Especially when these pine cleaner makers aren't going for EPA registration as a certified disinfectant. That is the real purpose behind pine cleaners but requires a certain ratio of pure oil. If you examine containers carefully not many pine type cleaners are certified disinfectants.

The Point Is:

That Pine-Sol claims it can no longer afford that percentage of pine oil, but many dollar-store clones contain that percentage. Not all - I've checked. But some do.

You don't think that's a bit odd?

If the "dime store" brands are private label perhaps the maker does more volume than Pine-sol thus can break even.

Since one totally detests the scent of Pine cleaners never really bothered looking at prices. I will never, ever, never, ever use the stuff... *LOL*

....The smell of old Pine-Sol was detestable, you should take a whiff of the new, pineless version.

That stuff would gag a maggot.

Favorite clothes soap-SURF Ocean Breeze powder. It has a very light lavender fresh smell. DONT buy the liquid version, it's worthless.

Dusting-Original Endust in the red can. OMG, this stuff makes the house smell so good,but it's only available through Janitorial supply houses.

Dishwashing-Believe or not, any cheap Lemon scented dishwashing liquid (grandmother used this type)

Cascade Professional for the "big" jobs.

Regular scented Lysol for various uses around the house. For some reason this has been pulled also from stores, but is available through Janitorial supply houses and Home Depot of all places.

Sprayway Spray Glass cleaner

I picked up a bottle of Gain Original HE liquid, and a bottle of Tide with Febreeze and will be trying them out this weekend. I accidentally grabbed non HE in the Tide so I'll have to be careful with it in the front loader. (Though last time I used non HE liquid it didn't over suds like I've had happen years prior)

As for that Pine Sol, the last time I was near that stuff was probably when it still used pine oil and the scent was so offensively strong that I'd become irritable and start feeling (b)itchy.
Now I'm tempted to go to a store and smell the current stuff, I'm sure the look on my face will say FAR more then words ever could about it.

For general floor/wall/etc cleaning we've never found anything with a better residual scent than Spic 'N Span powder. Used in recommended amounts it's very pleasant and the scent is gone altogether within a day.
