After reading a bit about them, I am newly looking for a wringer washer for everyday use and there is one available in my area that looks like this http://forsale.oodle.com/view/old-kenmore-wringer-washer-125-or-b-o/3146542431-milwaukee-wi/
But it is buried somewhere in a shed and the owner doesn't know much about it other than that it worked last time it was used, a couple years ago. I searched the web and this is the only pic I can find that looks like the pic he showed me. I was hoping someone here could give me some help as far as model and whether I will be able to get parts if I end up needing them. Gas here will cost me $50 for the round trip so i don't want to make a wasted trip. Thanks ~

Yes. Thank you it is. I have always been fascinated by them and it has just occurred to me that they could still be used =D

Basic no frills gravity fed sounds to me like less to break, therefore maybe just what I want. Unless bottom of the line back then also meant "not worth a darn" like it does now. We still have my great grandmothers "basic no-frills" kitchen aid mixer and use it regularly. My moms in the other hand has had to be repaired/replaced.

This is a dangerous machine to use if you look at the wringer. The absence of an easy-to-hit safety release would make this something that even an experienced user of wringers would avoid. Also an old wringer is probably going to need new rollers and the exact ones this machine uses might not be available any longer. Could you try to wait for something safer like a Maytag with its better wringer? There is a fine gentleman on eBay who sells most of the parts for Maytag conventional (wringer) washers so your parts problem would be taken care of if you go with a Maytag. Finding parts for the Kenmore might be difficult. Best wishes in your quest.

Manda,

That is a lot of money for an old machine in bad condition. There are much nicer wringer washers out there for that price. Please look around. Indeed, if you like wringers, this one may make you happy for a while, but in the near future, when you see much better machines out there, in way better shape, you'll be sad.

PS: When brand new, that machine may have sold for less than 125 dollars. Just to give you a context.

Oh, that is not the one I was looking at, just can't get the pics to upload and that is the only other one I can find on the web. All told, it would end up costing me $70 for gas and the machine, which looks to be only lightly used. But, I don't want my hand eaten by the wringer, so I guess I will keep looking. Odd that this doesn't have a safety when the earlier (it seems) models did. So far I have looked just long enough to realize that I need to live in the east if I want a nice selection =) Thanks =)

OH!

Well if the machine is only 20 bucks or so, go for it. There is indeed a safety release. I have used machines with the more primitive wringers, and you just have to be careful.
In the Manuals and Lit. section of this site you can download a manual for Kemore wringer washers, and it will show you how and where to release the wringer for this economy model. Most wringer washer brands I've seen have this wringer on their low end models, and back in the day, it was the only wringer.

I misread your first post. Sorry. That guy in your link wants a small fortune for a piece of junk LOL. If the machine you want is in good condition, I'd go for it, such a low price. You're hand won't get eaten ;'D . An alert, bright person should have no problem with any wringer.

Okay, I got it. Well hubby got it for me =) It seems to be in good shape, not the prettiest wringer ever made, but it looks like it will be serviceable, which is most important to me at the moment. One day I am sure I will have to get a pretty, pretty Maytag or something...but I can't complain about the price and I am excited to give this one a try! Although with our freezing temps the last few days and the fact that I have bronchitis at the moment, I may wait until next week =)
