TV with the volume turned up a little

History Channel, Science Channel, Modern Marvels streaming channel, The Red Green Show streaming channel.

I think they call it "teleradio" when you're listening while doing something else.

Wish they had a MythBusters and Outrageous Acts of Science streaming channel.

We have a 24” flat screen TV on the kitchen counter and I watch/listen to various programs while I’m cooking depending upon my mood.

While I’m finishing getting dinner ready I usually watch KPIX news, which is the CBS station out of San Francisco. Lots of times I’m watching an old movie on TCM or a cooking show on PBS or the Food Network. We can also watch the TV from the dining room which is directly adjacent to the kitchen.

I’m spoiled having had a TV in the kitchen since we moved here over 30 years ago. Before I retired I always came home from work and began making dinner and having a TV in the kitchen allowed me to watch the news while I was making dinner and our lunches for the next work day.

I have a mix of my Pandora stations playing on my main computer.  I feed that through the whole house, I put a ceiling mounted recessed speaker in the kitchen. I change the mix seasonally if not sooner. Mostly a mix of vocals and instrumentals, modern takes on classics - I hate listening to oldies.  I call that "dinosaur rock" most of my family listens to stuff from the '70s & '80s.  I lived through that period, I have no desire to relisten to it.

I have a couple stations* set up on Pandora that I sometimes stream via Roku on the family room hifi, or many hours of downloaded material played via USB flash/thumb drive on the LG DVD (saves Internet bandwidth). But, not audible during (stovetop) cooking, the OTR micro-hood drowns out anything.

Links in the URL Link to share entry must be entered in full URL syntax with minimum of http:// or they get appended with https://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/ and don't function because that makes the target a non-existant subpage of this site.

Thus, entering only aor.am results in a constructed URL of https://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/aor.am which is invalid.

Entering http://aor.am or http://www.aor.am or https://aor.am or https://www.aor.am works properly.

When I cook...

I usually listen to something that’s period correct for the machine that I’m using (unless it’s newer than the early 90’s; can’t stand newer “music”). I can only think of a couple of machines in my collection that fall into that age range anyway. Most of what I enjoy most is 60’s thru very early 90’s vintage, so rock, soul, disco, and nu-wave (80’s) are my primary go-to’s. Occasionally, I’ll throw in some classic country or some (VERY early) rap, but that’s about it. Usually, though, it’s either nu-wave (80’s) or disco. Sometimes, I use one of my vintage FM radios, but lately, I’ve been using my portable 8 track player to get the sound.
