My head is spinning, literally. I've been seeing some really scary you-tubes on the new HE machines with the repair nightmares. We will be moving soon and the old 1982 GE drier (which is still running well, even with a pronounced thump thump--drum rollers?) and a 2006 Maytag Performa (which replaced the 1982 GE filter-flo with mini-basket after 16 perfect years of service when the trans finally failed), will be left behind. I do like the high efficency and water saving performance of the new ones and the new technologies. But reliability???
The wife wants quiet, large capacity and reliable. I don't know if all three can be met with an Elite, Oasis, Duet, Hydrowave, Harmony or any of the new "cool looking" machines.

We have had very good luck (believe it or not) with GE appliances in the past, but not so sure about the new stuff.
I've read some good things about SQ being reliable and workhorses. I also don't want to pay $2200 for a laundry pair. This should be a good one, all info will be welcome.

alot of choices..

before all the new front loading stuff flooded the market, I use to be a maytag guy(not to mention the older belt drive kenmores and whirlpools)but since then, I have made the move to a high efficent front loading washer.
the first one I owned, was a Amana. It was good, basic, straight forward cycles, options, did laundry good BUT,had some consistant problems, and shaked the house like a earthquake on spin!(had it less than I year) I exchanged it for a LG front loading machine(WM2050cw, thank you home depot!) Its been great! basic cycles and options, and doesn't shake the house on spin! been very pleased with mine. Gets the job done!

From what I understand, LG has a pending class-action lawsuit or some major consumer complaint facing it for spin problems involving their front loaders shaking the house. Sales people have recently told me that many LGs should NOT be used in second-floor laundry installations, which are very common here in new construction.

My sister has one of the first LG steam washers, so it's about 4 or 5 years old. She hates it. It is on the second floor and it literally shakes the sophet in the kitchen downstairs. If they hadn't paid so much money for it and the matching dryer, they would be long gone.

I think I would suggest a Speed Queen, either in front or top load configuration depending on how much money you want to spend.

I was very satisfied with my Duet HT FL washer. Just steer clear of Frigidaire and GE FL machines.

Way too many horror stories about parts and service for me to consider a Korean brand.

I picked up a Duet HT on Craig List for $125 and could not be happier with it's performance and it's an older model. I bet the new designs are even better, I'd opt for a Steam version of the Duet.

I have had a G.E. Harmony 4.0 cubic feet and have had it for years and it's washes better than any frontloader I have had and used. There is no belts, transmission, and it's easy to fix also.If anything goes wrong it's like a leggo set,my pipes has some rust and when we put it in it clogged up the water valve and it took him 5 mins to pop it off and in..The best part it's a water saver but you can make it fill all the way and it will wash the hell out of clothes if you need it to...
