So far this year, ZERO energy spent for A/C.

Typically cool SF Bay Area weather. Even on days where temps reach 80-90F, it cools down rapidly in the evenings.

And all I've ever needed here has been a single stand-alone AC unit, which I don't think I've had to use in years.

Of course this could change, but so far so good.

Stats yesterday for mom's system.

Graph lines from top left are outdoor humidity, outdoor temp, indoor temp with a blue triangle for cool setpoint barely visible beneath, and indoor humidity.  The hourly bar graph is average operational cooling demand during the period.  Runtime during the hour is displayed when a period is selected.

She dropped the setpoint from 75°F to 74°F in the 3 am hour, raised it back to 75°F in the 9 pm hour.  I have the programming configured for the setpoint temperature as "Feels Like" which incorporates outdoor temperature, indoor temperature, and indoor humidity into an operational algorthim.

Indoor humidity level is set at 54% with 1°F overcooling allowed, but Climate IQ® and Feels Like typically keeps it lower than 54%, sometimes down to 47%.

Hourly periods from 12 pm to 7 pm all have 60-min runtime.  Cooling Demand for the 12p to 7p range is 45.7%, 53.8%, 62.3%, 65%, 64.9%, 62.2%, 59.6%, 53.5%.

The compressor is variable speed, 40% to 100% of capacity.  The contractor that installed/services it told me six stages (which apparently really is seven if 10% up/down per stage?, although varying the blower speed probably is part of it).

Its currently 94 F outside, inside our home is a cool and comfortable 70 F with just fans going in every room.  As previously stated we don’t have AC, but its the beautiful Sycamores, Liquid Ambers and Redwoods that provide the shade that helps to keep our home cool on all but the very hottest days.

Like Eddie said, shade makes a big difference. My grandfather in Mississippi never had air conditioning, but his house was shaded by huge oak trees. Before air conditioning, people in the south knew to locate their homes in areas surrounded by trees. My mom's cousin Miss Ruby only had fans, and even when it was very hot out, the house was a tolerable temperature because it was in the shade except for early morning. They also tend to have heavy draperies, even when air conditioning is present.

My daughter tunes the thermostat down to the lowest setting which is 45-degrees, when the temperature gets that balmy and the air feels muggy, sticky and humid... And/or she's running on her treadmill which is actually in the basement...

My philosophy is even numbers, no 1's, 3's,, 7's, or 9's, but 5's are okay otherwise an even number or 0, which is home and the automatic temperature control in the car, but forfitted when I went from my Chrysler 200 and Jeep Compass to my Jeep Cherokee...

Which was after before having a Honda CiViC which didn't have, before a Cougar and Thunderbird which did and before a Cougar which didn't and the Dodge Charger that didn't and a Ford Escort that did t have air conditioning altogether...

My wife has her first automatic climate control in her 2018 Toyota Corolla bought last year when I leased my Jeep my daughter wants for her first car when she drives...

Oddly enough, my 1999 Chrysler 300M recently started losing its display of the AC system. However, the system still works, just the display disappeared. Kind of hard to control it without the display.

Then, I drove it a few hours later and lo and behold the display of the temp settings returned.

Go figure.

72 mostly...once in a while at night bump it down to 70.... in the winter keep the heat at 64...

I visited a friend who I used to work with. An older lady.. She keeps her AC at 76..I'm not sure if I'm just so used to 72 but it just felt so stuffy to me..I've tried 73, 74 and even that felt too stuffy...now way I could do 76

This is our electric usage for the past year compared to last year. it's been around 100 degrees each day for at least the past two - three months. house is 1 story 2000 squire feet with 15+ feet ceilings thermostat at 76. We have been paying 351.28 with taxes and fees
