Well, I have the cheapo Magic Chef gas range that are commonly found in apartments and when I open the oven door, it makes an awful squeaking sound.

What can I use to safely grease the hinges with? Something safe to be around food that won't start a fire!

Thanks :o)

I use a lithium based lube, like what is used on car hinges. It is good for high temperatures and doesn't get around the food as it is always outside the oven.

On the oven racks I use a little cooking oil on the guides. It doesn't show where it bakes on, and is cleaned off on the next cleaning cycle so this has to be repeated.

Mother Toggle's Hardwick brand gas cooker had an awful squeal. All measures taken appeared to be temporary. We got used to it. Callers on the phone, however thought someone was being stabbed.
