The Kenmore Elite portable i have now because it is surprisingly powerful, even being a super modern dishwasher and full of D.O.E. Eco Nazi crappy standards, but it does an excellent job.

The LG Quadwash I have currently is pretty awesome!
Cycles are very flexible and can add on Extra Hot rinse and Extra Dry is most cycles.
A great Turbo cycle can do a 65 degree C wash with 80 degree C rinse with three short prewashes in 1 hour 7 minutes.
Love the extra KitchenAidesque four arm spray jet on the bottom (hence the Quadwash name). The two silver arms oscillate back and forth as the arm spins around.
Seems well made and very quiet but with enough interesting noises to make it interesting haha!

My mom’s first Maytag reverse rack and the 90s era Maytag Jet Clean we had at our old house. Excellent cleaning, never left grit on anything. But...they are horribly noisy. Good luck watching TV in the next room or carrying on a convo in the same room. The reverse rack had so many nice little features, too..like the narrow rail along the sides that held the lids from plastic leftover containers nicely— and it was only very solidly MOL.
On the opposite side of things: any DW by GE or Hotpoint has been awful about leaving grit, whether TOL or rental-property basic. Nor am I thrilled with the Architect Series Kitchen Aid we put in to this house in 2009. Multiple service calls in the first couple of years. Runs reliably-finally- but frequently leaves stuff on glassware and dishes.

The GE Potscrubber that my folks got in 1978. It was noisy, and used a ton of water but it really did a great job on pots, pans, casseroles, and bakeware.
The one I have now. A Miele Futura that's a few years old. Cleans beautifully, and it pops the door open at the end of the cycle, so it's only on rare occasions that I need to wipe any cup bottoms.

I've only had two and don't remember how the first did. It was a 1992 GE that came in my parent's house they built. In this house, have a Kenmore Ultrawash from the late 1990s. It has lasted this long with no repairs that I remember and does a great job. So I guess this one would be it.

from 1982. The NORMAL wash cycle gets almost everything, and I always overload. The SOAK-SCRUB cycle, if you load your worst baked on ugly crap downward for the spray to get directly, works perfectly.
35 year old machine, I replaced the racks about 4 years ago, and the water inlet valve. No other repairs.
It's a wonderful, reliable workhorse.

I wish I had it back. Less than a hour and nothing ever was left on a dish. Plus it dried the dishes DRY

Best one I owned was an American Dish ET-AF. It was another machine I caught between the restaurant and the scrapyard. Commercial machine, but 120v, and civilized enough to go in the kitchen if you're "that type", because it was (is) an undercounter machine the same size as a home model. Nice squared off stainless steel look. 1.5hp wash motor, 90 second cycle.. if it isn't clean the first time, press the button again!
I left a it with a friend five or six years ago when I moved, and couldn't accomodate a gravity drain in the new kitchen.

Over the years, since I was a kid, I've had 6 dishwashers. Among them a Hobart KA and the GE 2800 that many here love, but the best performer hands down is the new KA I got about a year ago. Never a single dirty dish and I do not rinse, just scrape. Plus, at 39 dB it's almost silent.

I have a Maytag WU904, reverse rack, that is probably my favorite next to the KDS-21. The RR is insane, cleans extremely well, and has capacity like no other. The machine is a complete animal.

Sure, it's got long cycles, and sips water; everything people here hate.
But DANG does it clean.
It's the first dishwasher I've owned that seemingly polishes my stainless cookware.
I used to have to scour them every few months. But not anymore since getting the KA.
It's a much better rinser than past machines too.

It was the perfect mix of power and efficiency.
Normal washes were quick and used only 5gal, but on heavy loads of cookware, it could use up to 10gal.
It was powerful enough to wash double stacked cups very well in the upper rack as well. Something I've seen modern machines struggle with, honestly.

1990 GE Potscruber. Noisy but sure did clean well. The one i have now is a 2002 Whirlpool. No repairs and clean dishes, every time and quiet too. Both of these machines were recommended in consumer report.
I have to break it into two categories - Vintage and Current

</span>As far as a current machine it would have to be my Bosch 800 series machine. It cleans so well. I think the comment of "polished cookware and silverware" applies here too. It's very quiet and runs forever but the dishes are really clean. I love the third rack on top too. I really wanted a Miele this time around but hubby was against a spend of twice what I paid for the Bosch so I compromised.
I miss having a vintage machine in the kitchen though so this one may find itself in the garage one of these days being replaced with one of my vintage KA machines. Joe really wanted a modern dishwasher in the kitchen because we have. newer house this time. We'll see how long it lasts.
