Lee, try to find local Brazilian immigrants in your area to

As long as they're LEGAL, card-carrying immigrants! I think you forgot to include that, Thomas! :-)

Otherwise, contact your local unemployment office and let them know you have openings. You can be pretty specific about qualifications, depending on your state's laws regarding such.

Good luck! Maybe this is the proverbial door that opened after the other one closed!

Panthera-

Please email or call my cell....now. Please.

Lawrence/Maytagbear.

As for Lee's hiring practices (he and I email a couple times a week), I know he only hires documented employees. No employer needs the headache of undocumented workers.

astounded

I am completely flabbergasted, abashed, amazed, astonished, astounded, blown away, bowled over, confounded, dazed, disconcerted, dumbfounded, made speechless, overcome, overwhelmed, put away, shocked, staggered, stunned, thrown for a loop by their ingratitude !!

All ss # are E verify

Before i even waste my time on a application if one does not even sign the app I tell them they are wasting my time and theirs.. INS dist office is only 4 blocks away and I know all 8 of them quite well. And have even called them to the plant 3 different times. Two just flat lied to me and I found out in a background check I turned them both over and had them hauled out.. As a example to all the others.. Do not try to make a fool out of me! I have several ways of checking everything. and I do!

Rich, what I said above applies ONLY FOR LEGALS!

I'm completelly against illegal immigrants.

Thanks to those thousands (if not millions) of illegal brazillians in the US, now it's very difficult to me to get a tourist visa to spend my vacations.

I can't belive brazilian doctors, dentists and engineers leave their careers to clean houses in the U.S. this is ridiculous!

Years ago I had a multiple entry business visa with work permit, but it expired. I was able to spend up to 3 months on each staying. (the work permit was only appliable if working for Elux as an employee transfered between branches around the world).
the first tourist visa I got in the 70's it was very easy to get one.. in 1989 I got this 10 year visa, renewed in 1999 but after 9/11 they voided the visas and I had to apply for anew one.. they cave me a 1 year business visa that I could renew easily.

Now that I left Electrolux, they think that I'm going to leave my family and the wonderful life I have here, everything I could built in 32 years of hard work, at my age and ignore my three college graduations and a post-graduation to work as an illegal cleaner. Ridiculous, isn't it?

Worst of all.. My boss! He owns a 4 million dollars company in Paraguay, everything properly declared according to our local legislation and when he applied fora tourist visa he provided all the required documentation, including the tickets for a luxury cruise he was going to do with his wife to celebrate his 2nd honneymoon and letting his two daughters in Brazil, their visas were refused and according to the stupid agent, he's in good shape so would be easily hired as a gardner. Ridiculous, isn't it?

He tried again and the other agent was very kind, checked all the informations and also asked if they wouldn't like to also get a visa for the two children at the same time just in case they want to visit the US someday. their passports were returned in 24 hours with the tourit/business visa without work permit.

I'm going to apply for a tourist visa in a month or so. I hope they realize that "Hard work" to me means not too much more than fork lifting.

"Just where do you suppose all the Americans came from?Honestly, your racist and ethnocentric nastiness really does get old."

Well, all the Americans came from America. DUH! Have you heard of Native Americans? Or, are you talking about the imports, like my family, that came here and called themselves Americans?

Just to set the record straight, you're making statements about someone you have no knowledge of! My ancestors were immigrants, as were those of most of our members. They were NOT Americans. I most certainly support ethnic/racial/sexual/gender diversity.

What I do NOT support is those who are here, not legally (like our ancestors were), and expect me to support them because the liberals say we should (that's the conservative side of my democratic registration coming out)! I applaud Lee for taking the extra step of identifying employees as legally able to work here. Not to mention having their asses hauled away after finding out otherwise!!!

If you're referring to my suggestion about detailing requirements if posting at the unemployment office, I remember, all too well, some of the completely WRONG applicants they would send to me for employment. It had nothing to do with race, creed, color, national origin, or sexuality. It had to do with having common sense, basic math skills (making change), being able to dress properly for the job, having the ability to engage a stranger in conversation (and not stand/sit/kneel like a lump staring into space), and more.

I don't remember jumping on you for anything before, though it was a bandwagon I certainly could have joined, but you've got a lot of nerve this time. I won't stoop to the lowest level possible by typing two words to you that don't rhyme with 'happy birthday,' but it sure is tempting.

Rich, what I said above applies ONLY FOR LEGALS!

Thomas,

I know we write under the same screen name, but I wrote the reply you're referring to, and clearly signed it Chuck. It wasn't Rich.

Just want to be sure you know that! :-)

I stand by what I said, Chuck

It's sad to think that somebody like you is actually in a position of power over those less fortunate than ourselves.

Honestly, your hatefulness towards anyone you perceive as a potential threat to 'your' slice of the pie is unethical and, quite frankly, un-American.

Feel free to say what you like. One of the joys of our virtual world is that not quite everyone of your dearest, closest virtual 'friends' is who you think they are.

Inquiring minds, my dear, do already know.

Panthera

Do you really need to be so rude to show your opinions?
Do you really need to start a fight every time somebody has an opinion that you disagree.

Honestly, that thing you wrote had nothing to do with me but your rudeness made me feel very uncomfortable. As far as I know, everyone here INCLUDING YOU know how to join a conversation and show the opinions without being agressive.

I understood what you tried to say and we all can see clearly another way you could (and should) have used to show your opinion without being offensive.

People have the right to have diferent opinions and the obligation to respect the opinions from the others. It won't make you or me or John or Mary better or worse than others. People are just different and think different! Who are we to judge other people?

Even with all my grammar mistakes, as english isn't my first language, everybody including you always were very nice to me. I also like you very much so please don't make my opinion about you change because I can't stand rudeness and ignorance.

No Thomas,

I'm not angry. You are right - I did speak firmly to Chuck.

His attitude towards people of color and those who are not of his very narrowly defined world of social acceptability makes me very angry.

But hey - I've made my point. I'm happy to drop it.

"It's sad to think that somebody like you is actually in a position of power over those less fortunate."

"Inquiring minds, my dear, do already know."

Again, you have no idea of whom you speak. That was a past managerial position, and I specifically kept it in the past tense as such. As far as the 'inquiring minds' statement... huh??? At the risk of repeating myself, you've proven you don't know anything about me!

If you have something you'd like to "reveal," please do! If you'd rather take another lithium tab first, I'll wait!

Chuck

I'm clearly convinced you have me confused with someone else. You saying, "His attitude towards people of color and those who are not of his very narrowly defined world of social acceptability makes me very angry" tells me so.

Please explain, with examples, right here, in public, and on the same forum where you've accused me of being a prejudiced snob.

Chuck

Thomas,

Yes.

When one of my cats get a little too stimulated by hand, usually the wisest thing to do is to remove said hand from said cat, and if necessary evict said cat from one's lap area, subsequently ignoring the cat for as long as is necessary for cat neurons to stop firing randomly.

:-)

Hi Chuck, perhaps this will help you understand who you are dealing with.....

Thomas, Rich (suds),

I truly understand what you're saying. The Greek philosopher Epictetus said something about it that amounted to, and I'm paraphrasing, 'defending yourself to someone who attacks you just adds credence to him.'

But, as I was reminded, Keven has done this on numerous occasions. He gets away with it because he gets an out (like in post 402483) and takes it, or isn't pressed further on it. However, after what he called me/accused me of, I pressed. Do I think he'll reply? No. He's not man enough to. He's taken his out and he'll stick to it... until the next time he decides to stir a pot or make false accusations.

Lee, I'm sorry that this happened in your thread, and that I continued it. I will not continue it any further. Please accept my apology.

Chuck

Chuck,
I hope this doesn't cause any trouble for us, but I am 100% behind you.
First I dont think you said anything rude, offensive, or prejudice. I also support your defending yourself when being publicly humiliated and called something you are not.

Again Sweety.....

I would only give the one or however many people who DID appreciate your gesture, something next year. Take the total you spent this year and divide it between those appreciative ones or all to that one. Let the others realize that they should have been happy to get anything at all. I got a box of See's Peanut Brittle from my boss and was very thankful for it. And the company gave me a half day off with pay to use whenever I want. Very cool, but even if all I got was the peanut brittle, which my direct boss paid for out of her wallet, I still would have been happy with it.

Rick...
Nice video.. LOL

Chuck...
You're right

Panthera...
It's the first time I'll say something like this to an AW.org member. Now I can see how toxic you are! Please never talk to me again, ok? That's all!

Sam...
I'm with you and Chuck too.

Lee...
I'm really sorry this happened to your thread. Maybe Robert can delete that unuseful postings.

Guys...

Let's come back on topic?
-----------------
Lee, I'm sure you're a wonderful administrator. People deserve to be treated the same way they treat us.

I don't agree with Vern. Being selective during Christmas can make things even more difficult to the "good" workers. Bad workers can believe they are "apple polishers" and start that bullying thing.
It can make everybody feel very uncomfortable and the result will appear on the finance department.

"Lee gave it to that bitch but not to me, ok, so now he'll see how I can "accidentally" use more detergents, or underload the machines during a whole year."

I think the best to do is re-evaluate all of your workers not only by this incident. Think professionally (sometimes we have to be cold as a rock to protect the company) and don't think twice before replacing those who can't follow the company rules.

It might look I'm horrible to the team I manage here. I had to fire many of them but also hired many others. Today I can say my team is so well integrated that we're like a football team. Everybody knows what to do, everybody respects each other and best of all, as everybody here knows all of the chores, even from other departments, when we finish something before it's deadline, we start helping the others.

Our efficiency? Well... my boss calls me Lee Iacocca and my team as "Golden Boys"

What have I done? Nothing! I just did exactly what I'm payed for and sometimes I have to be a bitch almost like Miranda Priestly.

That's all!

I realize this has now been beaten to death, so I'll add my $0.000015 worth of an opinion.

Keven, what Chuck said above was ABSOLUTELY NOT RACIST! How is not wanting to employ an illegal racist? Actually, you are the racist. You immediately assumed he was talking mexican illegal. While we do have our fair share of those, there are Bosnian, Russian, other European illegals, as well as African, Asian, South & Latin American illegals. Why should someone hire an illegal? THEY ARE ILLEGAL AND BREAKING OUR LAWS JUST BY BEING HERE. I don't care what country they came from, be it Canada, Iceland, England, Mexico, Peru, etc. Come here legally like those in line before. We need immigrants, just do it right. What's so hard to understand about that?

Why is it as soon as someone has a differing viewpoint from your arrogant Europe-is-superior view, they are racist? I recall the recent healthcare thread. You call all the people who oppose the bill racist because they don't want mexican and (the ultimate racist term) Negros to have insurance. That was extremely offensive and I'm sure you meant it that way. I really try to stay out of most of this bullshit, but I can't on this one. I and many others are tired of always being called a racist because our opinion doesn't match yours. Give the race bullshit a rest. That's my opinion, not that it matters.
