Nice find...you definitely can't beat free, even if it's just good for parts!!

I like the control panel...a blend of old and new (50's panel with 60's-style knobs). What kind of Surgilator does this have?

Hi Chris, You sure do find the neatest things!! I am also going to say mid to late 50's. Looks like a deluxe machine with a lighted console, at least I am hoping it has that. Have fun and continue to share those pictures with us as you work on her. Terry

wow, what a find!

Congrats Chris. Haven't ever seen one like this before.
What a beauty. That rust is nothing and I'm sure you'll
have her looking like new in no time. 1959 was a great year!

Family friends had a machine very similar to this, if not exactly it. I recall the five-temp selector with cut-out for rinse and variable water level. And a fluorescent light that had a bad starter or ballast or something, flickered/glowed on just one end.

when i get home

ill crank out a few pics when i get home this eve.. its already all apart in the garage for its cleaning..then off to paint and tinkering dept

few pics

my luck is nothing like gregs or roberts..they find all the cool ones..really not to much here in st louis..its about once in a good 6 months that i find something worth even looking at..but she is apart and in primer mode..the body is in good shape but the lid and top are rusty..but she will get there

Great pictures Chris!! Looks like she is well on her way back to her orginal glory. What did you coat the agitator with? Looks like new. Terry

quick spray

just 2 good coats of plastic spray..i know it will wear off again but thats what they make refills for ha ha..the agi was really in need of a good cleaning then it was just to rough so the spray sort of helps..this lady must have had a really hairy cat or dog..hair every where

auto parts store

guess im lucky.. i work for a nissan dealer so i can snatch up on all kinds of stuff..we have plastic spray that they use on used car engines to make them all shiny..thats all the can says is plastic spray..but im sure its some sort of poly..i used it on the tag agi and that was a good 2 years ago..it seems to hold up pretty good..but then again i only wash soft items like socks ect..am sure zippers ect would scratch a whole lot more..

cant wait

cant wait to get this one done..we had a 64 pool growing up.. mom washed everything under the sun in that thing..youll have to post pics for us of your 57..

am gettin there

i made a boo boo...i went to clean the console and of course the paint started to come off..so i just took it all off..here is a pic of before

hobby shop here i come

went to the hobby shop and found a little bit of gold and turquise paint and tried to redo the console..it looks ok but i really should go back and add some white to it..but..the body is painted and ill let that dry all the way till monday or so and reinstall the lid and then off to the tinkering part she needs her wig wag cleaned for starts

Chris, you do a wonderful job restoring your machines. You have a great eye for details and it shows. Thanks for sharing. That is a great looking Whirly.

Chris that is amazing!! That control panel looks like new. Can't wait to see the machine when you have her all back together. Keep those pictures coming!! Thanks for sharing. Terry

oh she is a mean girl

i guess this will teach me to work in the garage with out having shoes on.. had the top proped up with a cut off 2x4 went to lift the top and the 2x4 fell out and right onto my foot..broke 2 toes..so anyway she looks great and everything works except she wont spin..her wig wag works and the slide bars move but no spin.. i have never had a pool apart but im guessing there must be a clutch or brake sruface in there that is pooped..what do i need to take apart and what parts do i need to start looking for???
