What year washer do you think this GE is?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Mike -

There is not much to go by on that pic, and I'm not a GE expert, but those machines look like mid 70s to mid 80s machines - maybe closer to the 80s considering the white filter. I do know that the washer has an easily replaceable transmission, however whether or not they are still readily available, I'm not sure. GE at one time had a rebuild-reman program where people could swap tranmissions at a participating parts supply store about as easily as you can swap your car's alternator at Autozone (where you take the old one back for a core-charge credit).

I checked ebay briefly - There was at least one Filter-Flo transmission available there for $70.

thanks guys.....

thanks everyone, your info. helps. I might drop by and see them and then run by the parts supply house locally to see if I'd have many issues getting the parts for them.

Clockwise...counter-clockwise....

Interesting that the dryer timer pictured above is clockwise oriented, yet the timer on Jon's dryer (thread #18329) is counter-clockwise oriented. Does anybody know the logic behind G.E.'s engineering and why they wouldn't just remain consistent with timer rotation directions?

Thinking back, the only G.E. dryers that I remember using had the timer that was counter-clockwise oriented. I always thought that was just how G.E. dryer timers were, much like the counter-clockwise timers on center-dial Maytag dryers. Was surprised to see in the above photo that they did it both ways.

thanks.....

I'm going to call these folks tomorrow and go by and see them,
I'll get the model number then.

If that is a matching set, I would guess later 80s to early 90s, judging by the consoles. My aunt bought a similar model in 1988.

Have a good one,
James

Here are my model numbers:

Maybe you guys can tell me what they mean.

Washer: Model# 1WA 852 D2A
Serial # GD115926

Dryer: Model# 1DE 820 D1A
Serial# GD204319

The washer model number was really hard to read but I'm pretty sure it's correct. Can't wait to hear about them!

Jon
