What's the story on these Maytags?

I'm not certain that is the correct forum for this question, since I'm not exactly sure when these were offered, but I'm guessing that they're less than 20 years old so I'm putting my question here.

 

What's the story on these Tags?  They appear to be a hybrid between Dependable Care and Neptune, judging by exterior appearances.  But I am sure that these were built after Maytag acquired other brands and began to offer products that were of lower quality and dependability than the real Maytags.  So where were these in the Maytag product lineup?  Were these "true" Maytags or just a new skin on someone else's guts?

Maytag Atlantis

I’m sure someone will correct me, but I believe this came out after Maytag aquired Amana and is what some here refer to a an “AmanaTag”. I’m not sure if it’s strictly an Amana design or (there was some Norge influence - I could be completely off).

I bought one of those once and had to spend $100 for an inlet valve to repair it, then actually lost $5 on it when I sold it. Stainless steel tub, VERY large capacity, it seemed to work pretty well as I recall.

I’m only guessing on this, but I believe the dryer was a carry-over Neptune design.

the washer is a NORGE design....one belt....preference goes to the stainless tub...transmissions were a problem zone for these, but mainly pump issues surfaced more...

a pretty decent machine for the most part, huge capacity, long stroke agitation...

the dryer, granted I can't see close enough, but looks like a Neptune....they did copy the design for the "Atlantis" match....either way, bullet proof...

<span style="font-size: 14pt; color: #008000;">I have machines that look similar to those. I purchased them new in 2001. The washer and dryer have a few more buttons than the ones pictured above. I replaced the pump. The mixing fill valve should be replaced since "hot" turns out warm. I have new valve but never put it on. About every 100 times you use the washer it fails to spin out the rinse water. Big deal, you just reset the timer (which is no longer available). Yet, in my stupidity, I decided to buy new Speed Queens a little over a year ago. As I've mentioned here many times, they're still in the garage covered up. I guess I just wanted to have one last new washer and dryer before I'm gone. I really like these Maytags, and  unlike the Speed Queens, the tops on both are porcelain.</span>

Maytags

Washer is a Norge, dryer is a real MT 27" dryer, neither of these have anything in common with Amanatags.

 

These Norge inspired machines were better performers in all ways compared to real 2 belt dependable care Maytag washer EXCEPT they were lucky to last 1/2 as long as a real MT and were a PITA to do major repairs on.

 

Some of the advantages of Norgetags over real Mts.

 

Bigger tub

 

Better cleaning and load turn over

 

Better rinsing

 

These never go out-of-balance and require you to rebalance the load.

 

Self-leveling rear legs, washer never vibrates and walks on floor.

 

Easier to load and unload with slanted front.

 

Faster draining, less lint and scum redeposited in clean clothing.

 

These are some of the reasons that MT went with the NT over the original MT design, in addition the NT cost less to build and MT knew that they would be selling replacement machines much sooner as the DC machines were lasting customers too long.
