That's what I thought. Unless it's the way the light hit's it.

The most basic dryers were made with blue consoles in the late 70's. All the washers had the gold consoles at time this was used as an come on to get people into the store with a low price maytag hoped most people would buy a more expensive model when you found out you could not get a washer to match.

The A106/D106 was still available in the late 70's, sporting the original aqua panel even though the rest of the line had shifted over to the gold. Ken posted the brochure a few years ago - here it is again for reference:

I am wondering about the HOH's. Good, bad, slow, fast, too small, just fine? I assume they were reliable given the number of years in production. I also wonder about what people think of tub size versus dry time. Can efficient air flow make up for size? matt

Just as good if not slightly better. On a back to back test, the HOH produces a stronger airflow. Even though the wattage is a little lower on the HOH's, the 360 degree heating element drys a little faster and much more evenly than the 08's, especially with bulky items like comforters. The 08 series is easier to fully tear down, repair, and assemble....unless there's a motor issue.
Both are great designs and you can't go wrong with either, IMO.

built 3/71, is the fastest dryer I've ever used. The 360 degree heating element is probably the most efficient design ever. No hot spots, and so efficient. I love it, bar none!

I never paid attention, but I thought that the control panel color matched the color of the cabinet, with a few exceptions, harvest gold w/gold trim, white w/blue trim, avocado w/green trim....there was a method to the madness...lol
and how did they come up with the odel numbers...this thread is showing A106 and A108...was there a 105, 107, 109?

QsdDan, acquaintances had a HOH dryer, paired with a 70's kenmore large tub (penta vane). They often split the washer load in 1/2. The filter in the back of the drum was okay when one is young and limber, i can see how it would of been a problem, for say a small elderly arthritic person. alr2903

Yep, only a very small handful 07's though. LOTS of 08's and 10's as well as 12 series. LAT's came after the 12 series. Not a lot of changes between 1975 and 2006 for Maytag dryers. MANY changes for the washers though....most not for the better.

The later model MDE style Dependable Care dryers had an easier to reach thru opening and also a boost in CFM numbers IIRC. They shared the newer style elements that the LDE series used and used the same rollers and glides that Maytag dryers used since way back when (07's?) but took a different belt, blower and motor than the rest. I haven't seen as many issues with that later style blower wheel as I have with the older one but they sure do go thru glides and rollers like the rest...

Ben is correct i was thinking of the big door non halo of heat dryer model de90 & dg90 witch did not have a matching washer witch was used as a come on.
