Nice machine. Looks just like my KUDI21. Is that a 22 series? Mine had "Quiet Scrub" and "Automatic Water Heating."

I'm not surprised to hear that people admire your KA, or that they wish they had theirs back.

I'm ready to make the switch back to KA as soon as a "Whisper Quiet" KUDS22 surfaces on CL.

I love my Custom 21. From now on, I personally will always have a Hobart-built KitchenAid dishwasher. A double wash arm model of course. It looks like yours, except the control panel is all brushed metal not black. Mine came with a cabinet panel front and it matches my kitchen cabinets perfectly.

I'm not certain when Whirlpool(?) took over, but it must not have been long after the 21 model.

I've had people comment on it's 'antiquated' appearance and I tell them: Water usage and energy consumption doesn't matter. Clean dishes is all that matters.

I would hardly say that Hobart products look "antiquated." Do those same friends say that about KA stand mixers? They haven't changed at all from the design Hobart gave them way back in the 70's. If anything, a vintage KA dishwasher has a classic look, not an antiquated one. IMO, KitchenAid dishwashers from the early 90's on back command respect as substantial and capable machines, built to stand the test of time inside and out.

that look came in in the early 1940's. Actually I think there is a late 1930's brochure which shows the "new" KA stand mixer.

The model number is KUDJ230Y2....which makes it a 1993 Whirlpool made...the kitchen is now complete, with glass tile backsplash and cherrywood laminate on the floor...(looks almose real!)..

So true. Even KA thinks so, as they call their BOL K45 Mixer the "Classic" model. I still have my mom's old Hobart K45.

I was referring to the K45 and similar models above, as other than designer colors (on "Artisan" and "Professional" series) and minor trim changes, they look the same today as they did when first produced.

Jump the shark?

It was after Happy Days left the air. I would say when the switch was made from a porcelain tub to a stainless steel one and the "sculptured" plastic control panel, around 1999.
