which washer?

hello all, well, i have decided to get rid of the filter flos, unfortunately, the place i am moving to does not have a basement, plus, i have no room to rebuild and work on the filter flos, right now they are my daily driver, but when i move in february or so, i would like to get a new set, i am not sure which machine to get, i do want a LONG agitation stroke, and a machine that is 800 or less for the pair, i REALLY want the speed queen, but i am 400 short of the price. i am deciding between the ge top load with dual action agitator, direct drive with 360 degree agitation stroke OR a new frigidaire top load with dual action agitator, i love the indexing tub, more washing drama. i know alot of people here hate the WCI machines, but in some ways i think they are better than the newer ge machines, although i am not sure how the new direct drive ones are, i have heard of people having some problems with them.

If i where you i would check at a local store to see if they have in stock some of last year speed queen model washer and dryers sometime they have some some models from last year that they are selling as liquidation to make place for newer models?

There are three or four different Speed Queen models to choose from - the top two TL models do offer the Quiet Pak option...recommended if washer is in the "living" are of the house. I think the BOL Speed Queen is in the 390 range. Check SEVERAL surrounding dealers and bargain with them--you will see an amazing difference in prices sometimes. I was lucky...my local SQ dealer was 300 less (for the pair) than the competetion.

Another possibility;

would be to buy a new Speed Queen top loader, and then find a USED dryer at the local Restore Center. Dryers typically last longer than washers, and a good electric one can often be had for a song!

Go with the Speed Queen

Don't settle for todays GE or Frigidaire. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Todays GE might last you 5 years, the same with the Frig. and they are both made of plastic. Get the SQ washer first, and look on e-bay or craigs list for a used SQ dryer until you can purchase the one you want. As my boy Dan said, you can buy the 1 speed model SQ, danman from Mass. has it and he loves it. Just my 2 cents, or get the SQ washer, and keep the GE dryer.

i was also thinking about getting the dryer first and the speed queen washer next year or so also, but the ge dryer needs a new bearing asap, so i would have a new dryer but still have the ge dryer, everybody knows the filter flos sound like beasts on the spin cycle, i am not sure if it would be a good idea on the same floor as the living area, plus the laundry room is right by my bedroom.

i am just curious does anybody know if the bottom of the line frigidaire top loader FTW3011KW has the dual action agitator or a straight vane? i cannot find any specifications on it at all. i hope it has the straight vane, ugh, i hate dual actions since the wp direct drive and newer GEs i have used seem to shred clothes.

i think i might just get the speed queen washer and fix the bearing on the dryer, not sure yet. i have wanted a speed queen for2 years now, plus the bf keeps bugging me to get the speed queen, i really do LOVE the idea of something made i AMERICA for once! and the warranty is enough to make me sold! 3 years parts and labor, i heard speed queens customer service is top notch.

You've heard correctly...always been happy with SQ customer service. They don't have a toll free number, but most people have unlimited long distance at least on their mobile phones nowadays...and they are always prompt on their e-mails.

Don't the new Fridgidaire TLs have plastic tubs?

yes they have plastic tubs, both outer and inner tubs.
