Did the tape input on some of these vintage units produce an output stereophonic signal ? I have a 1959 Zenith SF188 and recently patched my new Technics turntable into the tape input but I don't hear the stereo separation.

Couldn't I just tap into the original Zenith turntable circuit and create two new inputs (left & right channel) for the Technics to plug into ?

Those old Zeniths, and other brands, required a signal about 0.5 volts (1/2 a volt) from the original crystal or ceramic cartridge in the original record changer.
A new turntable with a Magnetic cartridge only puts out 0.0035 volts (3.5 Millivolts)
Plus, magnetic cartridges require an RIAA preamplifier with equalizing network in order to sound right.

Unless substantial modifications are done, the whole system is not compatable.
