I have been thinking about this for a while now. Which is more effective in terms of rollover? The Whirlpool style agitator or the Kenmore version? In my experience, the Kenmore version seems to be slightly more effective. Kenmore also has the same style agitator that reads "triple" on the agitator cap. Later versions were branded "Total Care" or something like that. We all know the TAA senses the load size and moves up and down if the load is large enough. I don't think Whirlpool had a triple action agitator or equivalent.

This is personal preference, but I think the Whirlpool agitator looks nicer, especially with the fabric softener dispenser. Kenmore's version looks bulky.  What do you guys think?

I'm also trying to get a surgilator style agitator with the removal lint filter. Part number 387838

I don't think there's an appreciable difference from one DD dual-action to another.  Some versions have nubs on the underside of the spiral.  The load must be large and dense enough for them to make appreciable contact with the clothes for an effect to occur.

KitchenAid agitator

I was wondering... are there two different kinds of KA agitators out there? I thought the turquoise ones had the larger base. Dominic sent me the one pictured below and it looks just like the WP agitator with the same diameter base. Not sure what this turquoise agitator offers over the WP one?

The first KA machines didn't have DA.  The year they got DA, I believe 1988, they probably weren't yet the larger-base version (none of the models had a 3-speed motor).

KA was, of course, positioned as the premium brand so they had aesthetic and construction and features accordingly.

Different size KA agitators

The large ones also had a slightly different size Auger assembly, consisting of four spiral segments, instead of three like on the WP models. I can get you a part number over the weekend for it, but here’s a picture of the two sizes side by side. I also have the early model that isn’t a DAA, but don’t have a picture of it.

That's a very good comparison, Henry.  I have searched eBay and unfortunately, I don't see any turquoise KA agitators with the large base. I am super grateful to Dom for sending me what I have.

DAA

Abbreviation for "<span style="text-decoration: underline;">D</span>ual <span style="text-decoration: underline;">A</span>ction <span style="text-decoration: underline;">A</span>gitator"

In my experience coming from having three whirlpool machines with the 90s style dual action surgilator going to my first Kenmore with the dual action plus, I will say that the Kenmore agitator I have seems to tug the load down ever so slightly quicker due to how to the spiral fin is positioned more downwards than the Whirlpool ones that are pretty much just straight and don’t lean downwards, but it’s barely noticeable. To an enthusiast like us, we can notice it. Since the dual action plus agitator has the same base as every single whirlpool I’ve previously had, the turnover is pretty much the same. I collected a triple action one time, I don’t like how the base stem isn’t taller like the dual action plus agitators and the whirlpool dual surgilators. But they do the same job as far as I’m concerned.

There were a total of four different turquoise dual action agitators whirlpool made, the two showed above for Kitchenaids and there was two slightly lighter turquoise/blue dual actions that the 90s Ropers had, one with a longer auger for the smaller capacity models and then the regular higher stem as you have in your pic. Turquoise agitators just hit differently. White is so boring. It’s funny that whirlpool never once gave the
Kenmores a turquoise agitator. Wish I could paint mine lol. The very earlier Kitchenaids had the classic turquoise colored whirlpool surgilator as you have now, and later on they switched to the wider base agitators.

If anyone comes across another one of these turquoise surgilators, let me know!! I can trade for a turquoise Maytag powerfin three hole agitator I’ve had with the regular softener cup and the solid lint filter cap. I wish we saved the one from our roper, my grandma only saved me the fabric softener cup, what use is that!!? But atleast she thought of me as she knew I loved that machine dearly!

Part Numbers

These are the part numbers for the full assemblies of the turquoise agitators. The first one is for the non dual action (Penta scrub, as I’ve heard it called), and the second one should be for the large base kitchenaid agitator.

Maybe somebody can help me out. The guy at my local appliance shop who works with me very well has a KitchenAid agitator that he is willing to part ways with. I can’t tell from the photos but it appears to have the wide base maybe someone can help me out with their input these are the only pictures I have right now.
