Hi guys

I have a friend whose Whirlpool direct drive laundry center appears to have leaked oil onto the floor. I think the machine has been working fine and the oil was only noticed when the machine happened to be moved out of its normal position.

Is it normal for DDs to leak some oil over time? Is this a concern or can the machine continue to be used without requiring a fix?

If it does need to be fixed, would it be fairly easy to get someone to replace the transmission or is it worth replacing the machine?

Thank you
Mark

Direct drive washer leaking oil

Hi Mark, normally these do not leak oil but a small amount of oil is of little concern, what is the model number and age of the machine in question?

But as long as it’s working, normally, I wouldn’t worry if they’re worried about oil leak damage a piece of low pile carpet slipped underneath the machine or cardboard should keep it from damaging the floor, and they could pull it out periodically and see if the leaks getting worse.

It’s not too hard to change the transmission if they like the machine and want to keep it , it would probably cost four to $500 to have a new transmission installed.
