Whirlpool DD vs. Commercial Maytag Neptune

I have a Commercial Maytag Neptune and the same model Whirlpool DD that is in the link. My family uses the Whirlpool DD, and I will ONLY use it if my commercial machines are down. Lately because of these new Smart meters that have been installed in the area, the power company has been really stickin it to us. With that being said I have been considering changing the Whirlpool out for the Neptune to save energy. Is it worth it? As far as cleaning ability, durability, and energy efficiency, which machine is better? I'd like to see what everyone thinks about this. Thanks.

Smart Meters

Melvin, we began getting ours around here last late November early December. We ended up having the 5th coldest winter on record--snow flurries at Christmas time and then like 4 or 5 inches more 3 or 4 weeks later in January. Many people around here blamed everything on the smart meters, bills going up 200% and 300%. My January bill was $5 within my all-time high of $205 or $210. But natrually, I did usage analysis. My bill increased 21% from the previous month and my usage increased by 25%, so I still dobn't think I have anything to complain about. I watch my usage pattern. It's pretty consistent over time with respect to weather conditions. My current bill was actually about $5 less than a year ago. I'm very glad I have my Fridgemore and the Shredmore sits in the garage for 4 yers. I think my laundry is cleaner and definitely rinsed better. Drying time is down as is hot water heating recovery time. Watch your usage over time, I bet it will even out over time. People aren't complaining now like they used to, it was just a very cold winter for us. I live in an all-electric house btw.

I'd say the neptune,with it's electronicly driven motor,is
likely to use less electricity VS the DD with it's big motor,
conservetivly rated at 1/2 HP that runs at full power all the
time(might have to get an old watt-hour to try on each washer
to see if there is any significant difference)
As far as washing ability,though i am satisfied with the wash
quality of my neptune,sometimes i suspect it isn't as
effective as certain other machines in my fleet...

And if you are using the commercial Neptune as a home washer, you can alter the cycle setting to get a better wash -- increase washing time, add rinses, etc... I would swap the DD out for the Nep in a heartbeat.
