With my Whirlpool Direct Drive LA5500XTW0 all finished, I'm ready for a new challenge. I came across this dryer on Facebook. The lady was asking $15 for it because it doesn't heat. She ended up giving it to me to haul away.

As we say here in Texas, it looks like it's been road hard and put up wet! It's mainly just filthy. But a fresh coat of paint will work wonders. I'm mainly interested discovering why it won't heat. It will be fun to figure out!

The serial number is MA2201654.

Today, I tested all the electrical components and all the major stuff, including the timer and the cycle selector switches test out OK. However, someone bypassed the thermal fuse (which means it's bad) and the cycling thermostat is also bad.

Is there anything else that anyone would recommend that I look for? I haven't heard it run but I suspect it will need new rollers. It also needs a new door latch and I plan to get a new lint screen too.

My main task this weekend is the cleaning. It wreaks of cigarette smoke; however, I plan to paint the cabinet at some point so that will help with that. I also plan to wash and wipe down as much as I can with a deodorizing enzyme.

Thanks for any thoughts! I've never worked on a dryer.

Painting Drum?

I guess I've never owned a dryer long enough to have the paint inside the drum wear away. This one does have some paint wear on the drum and on the bulkhead. Is that something I should be concerned about?
