Since I will be resurrecting my Whirlpools sometime this spring/summer, did the ‘61 the ‘65 Whirlpool dryers use the same color coding for the wires going to the motor as the ‘66 and later models or not? Just wondering incase if things are different.

If anyone is wondering what I am doing, transplanting a Mark 18 console on the 1963 Whirlpool Imperial dryer sometime in the near future.

You may be correct, John. Unfortunately, my repair attempts to the timer haven’t been successful, spent a good 20+ hours messing around with it, so far haven’t gotten anywhere with it.

Long story short, a friend in Colorado had a late 1970’s (1977 I think) Whirlpool Mark 18 set that ended up getting parted out. Still in the process of trying to arrange shipping for the parts that were pulled off, thankfully all the wiring harnesses were both pull off both machines along with other odds and ends.

The reason why I am going about transplanting consoles on from a later style of Whirlpool is I’ve had no luck with the repairs with the timer, or finding a replacement. Someone in a group mentioned they had what I was looking for, but ended up flaking out.

Really don’t want to alter the originality or modify something beyond recognition, but you gotta do what you gotta do when you can’t find or locate replacement parts, especially parts that don’t exist anymore.

Well aware of the difficulty, and how it’s going to be difficult getting everything wired up correctly, but willing to take the challenge on. May be a headache up front, but in the long run with be less of a headache than trying to find a timer or parts that have been long gone.

Really didn’t want to spill the beans since I wanted to surprise everyone, but thought I’d mention what I am going to do for some context.

Shot in the dark, but these might be of some help if you already don't have them. They have example wiring diagrams to various BOL, MOL and TOL models scattered through out.

If you are attempting to adapt control systems make sure you 100% know what you're doing and that the new control system will still be safe and adequate with drying system. That means making sure all thermostats will trip the heater out before becoming dangerously hot, that the centrifugal switch in the heater circuit works as intended and that the timer sequences the right components, in the right order, without back feeds into unintended circuits.

Will have to study some wiring diagrams. Interestingly enough, took my Kenmore compact dryer apart yesterday evening, sure enough it has the same red, blue, white wires going to it.

Sean, you’re going to destroy that beautiful turquoise pair

The consolesfrom the 1977 pair will not fit on the tops from the 63 pair, The turquoise dryer works perfectly well why would you destroy it?

You don’t have to have a matched pair if you want a pair of 77s look for a pair of those it’ll look dumb anyway cause they didn’t make turquoise in 1977 the coloration of the control panel won’t look particularly great on a turquoise pair.

Find someone to rebuild the timer for the washer with the parts that I sent you. It will be far less work than what you’re attempting to do.

I may look into other options, but I’ve been checking eBay persistently since 2023, looked on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace, even asked around various groups on Facebook, nothing.

Maybe someone might have parts from a Imperial model made between 1963 and 1964 similar to what Al has up in Utah (the chrome bezel around the timer, faceplate, the timer itself), could just convert it to a Imperial model. Even that would be tricky to do since I don’t know if anyone has those parts here on the site.
