Recently purchased a Whirlpool Duet Washer model GHW9250ML. After hooking it up I ran it through it's first cycle without any clothing. The spinning noise created by the drum was surprisingly quite, however, at several points in the wash cycle (one towards the very beginging) the machine emmited a relatively loud noise which appeared to be coming from the base of the machine.

The sound does not appear to be a rubbing or gurgling noise, but rather a mechanical pumping noise (grrrrum grrrrum grrrrum). Compared with the rest of the cycle this sound is *significantly* louder. Does anyone know if this is a problem or the normal operation of this washer.

Also, I have come across some discussions regarding older Duet models where owners purchased a "pad kit" from Whirlpool. Any information on what is is about?

Thank you.

Did you by any chance forget to remove the shipping bolts?

That will certainly get it in to doing the Hotpoint Hop.

Removal of Shipping Bolts

Yes, all four shipping bolts and their cables have been removed.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have the Kenmore version and the pump is noisier than the rest of the machine. You can tell when it kicks in. Having it on a ceramic tile floor will sometimes amplify the sound, but I think it is a normal operating sound of the washer. The pump is located behind the lower panel in the middle.

It sounds like you are just hearing the pump running at different intervals during the cycle. I have several clients with these machines and have been surprised at how different they sound compared with my Duet at home. Most of this is probably just where they are installed, pedestal or not, etc. that makes for different sounds. If you are concerned about it still, you can always call for service to have it checked out.
