I have a Whirlpool WTW5000DW3 washer and I hate it, it has a lid lock, does not clean as well as the old ones, and is extremely loud on the spin cycle.

I want my old Whirlpool back, I got this machine in late 2019 and I regret it, it worked fine for a while until it suddenly became extremely loud on the spin cycle. Based on the serial number it was made on the 43rd week of 2019, making this machine only 5 years old.

Here is a video of the noise this is making on the spin cycle (it’s ridiculously loud). The appliance repair technician said it was normal.

Can I just replace it with a Speed Queen or do I get a used direct drive?

Your washer has bad bearings

That loud noise on the spin cycle is not normal and means your bearings are bad and to fix it you’ll need to change the entire transmission. My Whirlpool WTW4900BW0 that is now 11 years old is having the same problem.

You can replace it with a Speed Queen or a used direct drive if you’d like.

Yes, it does indeed sound like it has bad bearings. You need a complete transmission and drive unit if the machine is covered by any type of extended warranty, you can get them to fix it free otherwise replace it.

You certainly can replace it with anything you like a vintage direct drive whirlpool product or a new Speed Queen TC five series these Washers are good replacements if you don’t care how much water, hot water, electricity, and detergent you used to wash clothing. When you compare these two machines with your current machine you will double your consumption of water, hot water, electricity, and detergent this may or may not be important to you.

Otherwise get yourself a good front loader the Speed Queen front loader is your best bet of course but they’re quite expensive.
