chip was in agiator when I bought it 13 yrs ago.i just like the double duty much more.the original had to be put on different with a nut tightening it down throught the cap and the whirlpool logo was a snap on top.there was a gasket that sat on the original pst that was slightly longer and it wouldn`t snug up and wasn`t sure if it would cause water to get over the shaft.rather be safe than sorry.

but no biggie,the double is my favorite anyway.much more violent!!been wondering if motors are in need of rebuild,62 strokes per min on harvest gole,tan 61 and white 66 per min.any thought`s on that anyone??

saw a vid that was a straight up tease this afternoon of a Kenmore with a surgilator in it,looked like a bakelite agitator only 40 seconds long.looked like an awesome machine and that`s what got me wondering about the motor being a little tired.but from memories as a kid still pretty much on par seems like no 2 whirlpools or kenmores are alike.anyone else have that feeling 2??

just seems like they could all be made on the same assembley line and no 2 work or sound just alike,all 3 of the machines I have all sound different and the 2 white and tan one are the same modellda5800 I believe and same yr!!

check the 2 new videos out I just posted on youtube.someone is sure to enjoy the rug being destroyed!!made more of a mees than anything,especially sense I had to do a minor fix after the pump clogged up after the first wash,in the spin,it`s no suds lock but the pump clogging.did provide me some excitement though.hope everyone enjoy`s.will be doing a few more and with different cycles.second vid has a little of gentle wash and spin in it!!
 
What is the buzzing that I hear in some of the videos right after the fill for the rinse completes before the motor starts? It doesn't happen all the time, and is of random duration, sometimes lasting 2 seconds. It is also preceded by a pause of random duration whenever it occurs, otherwise the motor starts as soon as the fill valve shuts off. Is this arcing in the timer due to a contact going bad? See the 22:15 mark of the video linked below... buzzing starts at 22:35.

 
the reason for different agitation speeds is not the motor loosing power, its the belt wearing down, as it does, it rides more towards the center of the pulley, and theres the slight difference you notice of it slowing down....

when a new belt is first put on, you will see an increase in wash action.....

I like to replace the belts with a 5/8" wide belt, causes the machine to have a bit more kick as it rides the outter edge of the pulleys...it will increase the spin speed some also...
 
fast agitating Kenmore

is the speed of this machine picked up by just adding the thicker belt? Meaning that you can more videos? If so that's a pretty rad trick! But I'm wondering just how much extra wear and tear that educating speed is putting on the transmission? Anyone have any thoughts on that? I know those old belt drive transmissions are tanks but there has to be a threshold.
 
belt thickness

I'm going to try that belt trickjust for fun and see what kind of results I get and was curious, which Pulley did you change,the drive pulley on the motor or the tray yogi.I have an extra transmission assembly laying around so I figure I give it a shot. also where did you get pulley from,auto parts or another machine??and what kind of results can I expect with a 58 inch belt?
 
first I switched out the pulley to a 2 1/2"....got it at a Garden Tractor Supply place....and used the regular belt.....waaaaaay too powerful, especially for a Surgilator......bottom finned Kenmores versions worked better.....

the best pulley is the 2 1/4"......a nice wash movement, without going overboard.....again, same original belt.....

then went back to the original pulley, but purchased a 5/8" belt.....this seemed to work best, it rides on the outter edges of the pulleys....and adds just enough kick, which I always felt these needed...without over straining anything....this gave a happy medium for me....still running, so I can't say its done any major damage yet...

with the first two pulleys, you will have a WOO WOO sound!...

think too, bigger pulley also makes the pump really pump out water, it will make that hose jump out of the sink....
 
good deal I just went and bought 5/8 inch belt and are going to check it out to see what kind of results I get. thanks for the extra bit of info to knowing that the much larger pulley will put a lot of swish with a surgilator and I don't want to overdo it but just get a little bit more out of it. the larger pulley I would almost bet would make one hell of a difference in the harvest gold with the rather large basket.

But if that's the case then I will just put a bigger pulley on that machine and the thicker belts on the other two! I really want to thank you for somebody who's wanted to try something like that but didn't exactly know how to go about doing it and being that you did it this super awesome and nice to have someone who will share some knowledge with those of us that like to exchange information! it would be kind of awesome though to see a surgilator destroy something that I don't need anymore and say 90 swashes per minute, lol! Its good I have a tractor supply place right down the road in Fort Pierce so I guess I can head down there and pick up a two and a quarter inch pulley just for SNG's!

if you think that's cool....you should see the Turbocharged Maytag.....and I have Ben to thank for that one, again, just needed some extra kick, the spin in super nice...

although those Whirlys are fun, something to consider is a spinner, or a twintub, for the spinner option, you will be amazed at how much more water you will extract from clothes...Whirl/Kens only spun around 550 or so....

even before with the Maytag, amazing how much more water was extracted from just a second spin with the normal set up.....now I get those results from one spin...

I am waaaaaay down South, in Bridgeton....seems like I am almost alone down here.....most of our Jersey members are up North from your area....

kudos to Ben for the machine setup and outstanding vids....

Was a super awesome spin to it now! and posting two videos right now showing the results check them out! by the way that Maytag is awesome! I did a Google search for a 50 Hertz pully set up but didn't get any results. Any suggestions?
 
I think I have part numbers here somewhere if you needed them....

its a motor pulley and belt conversion......

theres a pulley conversion too for the pump, for installations that require a higher pump out rate....

Wow Yogi, really wow, I don't recall you ever sharing this fantastic news about extra washing and spinning speed increases for Whirlpool and Kenmore washers. I loved the Kenmore and Whirlpool BD's but hated those very slow (515 RPM spins)...first learned about this from 'Combo52' John, who created a 'hi-breed' 1971 Lady Kenmore washer buy changing the drive pulley that amped the spin speed up to approximately 720 RPM...agitating speeds remained the same at 68 OPM...he also installed a 68' 27 gallon wash basket but, the only problem that occurred was the giant tub walked and banged because of the extra fast spin...So, I thought the suspension needs added stabilizing strength...came up with adding 3 Heavy Duty Long Suspension Springs for back-up (stay-put) support...attached to the suspension rod cover connecting to the baseplate...what do you think about that Yogi? What were the agitation and spinning speeds increased too? And Smoochies, you don't like using your 27 gallon LDA washer?...the gigantic tub is MAGNIFICENT, with the 18 lb. Super SURGILATOR (undulating vanes and upper straight vanes)...non-stop 'TIDAL WAVES' of water surging from the bottom to the top of the tub.
 
hey yogi,sure would like those parts numbers if you got `em and I agree with ya,this is the way they should always`s be!!just a little extra kick without too much over.now she`s perfect amd the wife--well she`s already lookin to try it out now.i told her if I catch her overloading it again I`m going to,,you get the picbut it perfect now and thank`s for that help brother.i can`t tell ya how happy that made me man.bext time in jersey which could be anytime,i`m a trucker by trafe gonna have to drop ya a line and go for a beer bro!!

scrubflex,i do love the harvest gold but so afraid something`s going to happen to her I only use her for my loads when the wife get lazy the I take over and do the laundry when there is mountians of clothes.and she don`t mind it either cause I`m out of her hair.today got under her skin though with the belt change but once I was done her she comes a runnin wanting to wash something and she see`s what I`m talkin about now.but back to goldie,i just use her every so often.that was the first one I got from my childhood memories and I really take care of it.once a year I tear it down and grease it up,check the whole thing out from top to bottom and just basically give it a physical so if something is happening I het the jump on it.i know eventually I`m going to have to have a new tub made for it in a machine shopsense you can`t buy them anymore.i have the ring siliconed to the top cause where the clip ring clip`s go are rusted out..lol but I improvised and it worked out just fine and it doesn`t leak!!

I just hope it doesn`t get pissed-off when I soup her up with a thicker belt!!but then again she never complain`s,well,she did the otherday with the nasty rug,,that was no sud`s lock!!!she straight up choked on durt from it.and once again the wife wouldn`t help film so I could show what happen.it was comical and entertaining.
 
Smoochies, your almond colored Whirlpool is a super capacity as well (2.80 cu.ft.) I believe...so can some videos of this washer with the NEW 5/8" belt and the 18 lbs. Super SURGILATOR agitator? The extra speed (71 OPM) and looks like, (600 plus RPM) destroying dirt in extra large loads will make awesome videos as well...not as spectacular as 27 gallon GIGANTIUS but, great anyway. If I had her---(LDA-7800), I'd be just as careful. BTW, if you want to replace the pump appliancepartspros.com have the LDA's pump and a 4 port pump also. Check it out---pump p/n: 358036 (sf 342) and manifold & filter p/n: 371743
 
out to go grab another belt today, and probably call a few supply places to see if I can grab a larger pulley seems like if I can get 71 out of the pulley maybe a little easier for me to find a part. had to hit autozone Advance Auto Parts and Napa which was my last stop define the extra thick belt. well, that's what I get for living in Florida since they never ever anything you need around here
 
Great thread! Didn't realize you could amp up the speeds on those machines. Now they can really stir things up.

I am also amazed by that "turbocharged MT" Martin.
