Whirlpool LAA7500W Drive Belt

Hi, My folks own a Whirlpool LAA7500W which I believe was purchased around the mid 70's. They are both in their 90's and still using this washer every day but the drive belt just broke and I cannot find a new one yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for a parts house for this belt or the specs of the belt? Also, any instruction on what I need to disassemble in order to get a new belt on would be very helpful. It appears that there are a couple of brackets that will need to be disconnected from the frame in order to slip on a new belt? Also, fyi, when this washer finally dies I will advertise it on this site for someone to pick up and restore. I will never allow it to go to the metal yard!! thanks for any assistance you can lend. Belt For WP Washer

It is Pt# 95405, these are available everywhere that sells appliance parts, It is a PIA to install unless you are pretty mechanically talented, you might try finding an older experienced independent repair person in your area or another washer.

It does look like a pain to replace but I've tackled many a tough job over the last 50 years or so of messing around with appliances so hopefully I'll get this one repaired after purchasing a new belt. Malcolm, that video is invaluable! I've never tackled at WP/Kenmore belt replacement before. Though it looks tedious, it does look do-able. Thanks to Malcolm and Larry for posting!

Changing A Belt On A WP BD Washer

The video is helpful as it shows what you are in for BUT, I do not like dropping the transmission a 1/2" however, on an older machine this can cause seal damage to the agitator and spin tube shaft seals, it can also lead to misalignment of the spin tube in the center post bearings which sometimes leads to a washer that won't spin properly after a belt has been changed.

 

There is a 1/2" spacer above the transmission bolt near the clutch control shaft, this is the only transmission bolt that I ever disturb when changing a belt, this is the way the washer was designed to have a belt changed. The spin cam bar can be pushed back and out of the clutch control shaft allowing the shaft to drop and then the new belt is slipped over the top of the clutch control shaft.
