Early 70s whirlpool portable convertible dishwasher

Hi Mark, good find this was a very rare model. Of course they had a built-in version as well. I’ve probably only ever seen one or two of these in my life. whirlpool didn’t tend to sell a lot of high-end. They usually didn’t make it into the big stores because they were expensive And only went to people that asked for top-of-the-line or maybe somebody that knew somebody at the distributor, etc..

This would probably be about 1972 model , whirlpool had quite a few pump problems in this era. They were still working out reliabilityproblems. The pump was probably almost as bad as a DNM or a Frigidaire , wasteking , hot point or even Maytagaround this time.

In reality, the only Dishwasher that had a truly excellent pump was KitchenAid in the 60s and 70s.

Whirlpool SVF 100 Portable/Convertible dishwasher

I actually bought this, and another goodie, a KitchenAid Top Loading portable(a KD14 series, but I'm not sure of the exact model number). They will be delivered on Saturday! I am super excited to have acquired these.

I had the same model Whirlpool in Coppertone in college while I was living with some roommates in a house. They loved me!😊 The food warmer was really cool to have as it kept pizza hot instead of in the oven. And it cleaned up after five guys really well! Two arms meant nothing got missed.

The KitchenAid has even more memories. My aunt and uncle had a summer home on Long Island at the other end of the town I grew up in. They only came out in the summer,s and they had this dishwasher in their kitchen. Whenever we would visit for dinner or dessert,  during the cleanup, I would watch her when she loaded up that machine in the kitchen and would wait another 20 minutes for it to get through the first two water changes; that's when the drain water was at its dirtiest, and you could see how well it was cleaning! I loved my aunt and uncle, and this brings back tons of memories!

That's great news, Alan.  Saturday will be an exciting day for you!  With the Mark 100 next to your dining table, you'd be able to carve and keep your food warm and then load up right there and then at the table and wheel it to the kitchen!  That would certainly be a talking point when hosting a candlelight supper 😁.

The KD14 is a great score too and will bring back memories for you.  I had the pleasure of seeing a portable TL dishwasher running at John Lefever's home.  It's a cleaning powerhouse for sure.

Enjoy

Two great fun, portable dishwashers

Hi Alan, we’ve always wanted to find one of those KitchenAid‘s like this one with the cast-iron washer and the detergent dispenser. That should be a pretty good dishwasher, the one we have is the model afterward where they went to the more modern pump in the four-way Hydro sweep arm and it does a great job as Mark can attest.

That whirlpool portable was a very advanced dishwasher and features and performance in its day as usual. It looks like it’s had almost no use which is so typical with many portable dishwashers. People just didn’t bother using them, but they sat around and because they weren’t built in they didn’t have to be professionally removed so they don’t tend to get thrown away as often., The one you’re getting still has the original Delco Turbo pump with the original style filter hopefully it’ll still be in great operating shape like the rest of the dishwasher.

You can put the newer whirlpool filter pump in that if it has a problem, you could even drop the power clean pump in that dishwasher that would be a lot of fun Let us know how they run.
