A Best Buy sales associate stated to me that Whirlpool was going to go back to some Maytag manufactured models due to quality issues with the Whirlpool reproductions. Has anyone heard of this. The only thing I can think of is the dishwasher that is made in Canada by W Pool?

Well, that's interesting, because a salesman at an indie appliance store told me today that more Maytag products are going to be Whirlpool-based; ranges, in particular. He also said more models of Maytag dishwashers were going in the same direction. He was concerned because Whirlpool isn't known for great ranges.

I'm not fond of cooking with gas, but the gas range that came with my apt. is a FABULOUS Magic Chef(a/k/a Maytag). It is sturdier than an army tank!

LOVE IT!

I think the person at Maytag who hired a former Whirlpool executive,(who ultimately, it appears, killed the company by letting WP take it over) needs to be thrashed with a cat-o-nine-tails!

To me these take-overs and mergers are ego-trips and I sincerely doubt that Maytag engineering will be maintained. The name and reputation and mostly the market-share is wanted, but to acknowledge that someone had a product better than WP? HEAVEN FORBID!

Ultimately, changes in efficiency laws (washers) and swallowing-up one's competiors have simply opened the market to international competition, by creating a vacuum. [Note: not related to those plug in cleaners! LOL]

In the long-run there will be no more U.S. appliance manufacturing companies unless the cost of fuel continues to increase whereby shipping from areas far and near remains dear. FEH! In that case they will set up shop here like foreign car mannies.

Too much said!

I was looking for a Maytag DW, but the Amana branded one did not have a "Rinse Only" button/setting on its electronic. Other models were not near my price-point.

Flip-flop.

The "Broil" (grille) setting would have been smarter/ more intuitive on top, "Bake" on the bottom. Especially for those who don't understand English.

No other complaints! LOL

Yikes

So more than likely, the guy got it turned around. It will be a shame but knew eventually everything will be a re badged whirlpool. And I agree, the maytag dishwasher is far better than the whirlpool. Well we will just have to keep up the fight to restore vs recycle.

The guy at Lowe's told me that all Washers immeditely went to a WP design. The dishwashers are still a Maytag design but using WP sourced parts ie. motors, electronics. . .

He said within a year when stock ran out we would be seeing all rebadged machines after that as Maytag as a company ceased to exist and is now a name under the Whirlpool umbrella. He also predicted that more would be built in Mexico in the future.

One thing he wasn't sure of is if they refrigerators would continue to be a Maytag design because of their bottom freezer, he was pretty sure they would no longer be built in Amana, IA. He thought that Mfg, would go to MI.

Funny topic - was recently told by an owner of a local appliance store that Whirlpool is currently talking about closing the Amana plant down in lieu of moving refrigeration production to TN.

Sad, sad state of affairs.

As for now, the dw are still Maytag except the low end. Those are rebadged wp design. The new Maytag/WP/KA dishdrawers are made at the Maytag dw factory. All washers (TL & FL are WP clones), all Maytag/Amana sideXside & TM refrigs are now WP clones. As for ranges, I haven't heard difinitively yet, but some of the 20" models are now WP instead of Magic Chef/Maytag based. The other ranges are still Maytag based.

I was just looking at the new Maytag laundry coming out and I saw the the top o' the line TL washer (NOT a cabrio, just regular TL washer) will have a "glass (re: plastic)" lid for all you peekers.

As far as production moving to Mexico, alot is already there (EpicZ/duet sport, some sideXside & Tm refrigs).

Rumor mill

"As far as production moving to Mexico, alot is already there (EpicZ/duet sport, some sideXside & Tm refrigs)".

Still more products are produced in the U.S. plants in Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas & Missisippi. Remember pre-Whirlpool Maytag sourced their top-freezers refrigerators from Daewoo and built many other refrigerators in Mexico. Also sourced laundry from Samsung--Korea.

"The dishwashers are still a Maytag design but using WP sourced parts ie. motors, electronics. . ."

True, now that Whirlpool is paying for the parts I suppose it could be said that Whirlpool sources them. That said, Maytag dishwashers are built with Maytag specified components.

"Whirlpool is currently talking about closing the Amana plant down in lieu of moving refrigeration production to TN".

The Amana Iowa plant continues and is now dedicated to bottom-freezer refrigertors. The built-in refrigerators have been transferred to Ft. Smith Arkansas from Amana IA, & Nashville TN.

Hope this helps clarify the rumors. :-)
