Whirlpool probably can't afford NOT to make appliances in China. The "China Price" can't be matched anywhere else in the world and unfortunately, this price-point in the market is going to China.
I cleaned a vacant apartment for a friend's daughter this week, two years old and all GE appliances. I was horrified at the quality of everything in the building and apartment, but the appliances were certainly disheartening to say the least. Refrigerator, range, micro/hood, dishwasher and full-size laundry. The cabinets, doors, fixtures, flooring and finish work in the apartment were just hideous. I'll bet more than half of it all was made outside the U.S. Absolute garbage.
