Whirlpool Quiet Partner 1 Dishwasher not cleaning properly

Hi there. The dishwasher that my roomate has in her condo is working less than good these days, things are not being cleaned, and when I bypassed the door interlock, the spray from the bottom arm was only coming out about 4 inches off the spray arm, and the top arm barely had water going to it, just a trickle was coming out of the arm. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it back up to washing properly or what the problem might be with it? When I told the roomate about it, she was adamant that she was not going to put a new machine into the house as the dishwasher is only four years old, and she is too damn stubborn to get a repair man in to take care of it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vinegar

Try vinegar. Once a month when I hear the detergent cup open in my Bosch, I pour in 1 half gallon of vinegar in it. Works like a Charm.....Bill in Az.....

The food chopper is prolly caked with food particles, or the food chopper has broken and doesn't spin anymore. You have to remove the wash arm, top filter, and tube that runs up the back of the tub to get to the food chopper. It's a bit of work.

Was this all of a sudden something she noticed, or was it a gradual event developing over time? Does she have hard water? I bet it oculd be sediment and debris in the water valve not allowing for proper flow of water in the time allowed for a fill phase to occur. Whirlpools are very sensitive to anything but optimum water pressure flowing through the water valve.

there is water coming into the machine, tub is always at the right water level when I have opened it after a fill. a couple of times now I have added more water to the tub, but it made no difference when the machine was turned on, still very low pressure from the lower wash arm and a trickle out of the upper spray arm

we have very soft water here in North Vancouver, and I think it has been a gradual decrease in performance, I never saw anything come out dirty from the machine over the last few years since she bought this place

Try mixing some vinegar or lime scale remover with the water. Maybe that will help. Also, have you checked all the holes on the wash arms to make sure they aren't plugged?

spray hole answer and machine model number

all holes in upper and lower spray arms are clear, was the first thing I checked when I noticed that things were not coming clean when I ran a regular sized load of dishes and they came out half clean. as mentioned, the pump runs, but its not pushing much water to and thru the spray arms during the cycle, my old whirlpool blasted water into the kitchen when I defeated the door lock, this one, I had running with door open and not a drop came outside of the machine. Upper spray arm was in one spot, just a trickle of water coming out from the end, lower wash arm was moving around, but the spray coming out of the arm was only about four inches, six maximum.
the model number of the machine is DU1050TPSO, if anyone has a service manual for this model, please send it to me, The gasket on the door is almost covering the ID tag on the left side.
will get started on figuring things out with it next week when my hand heals up a bit.

repair done, machine working perfect again

Thanks for all the suggestions and help with this, after taking the machine apart, replaced the food chopper, put back together. What a difference! water is moving around in the machine like it was brand new.

Hi all. Just a final note, found the photo I took of the food chopper and the gunk that was in the lower sump of the whirlpool. Not a hard thing to change out, just a bit tricky getting the cover off the lower sump and getting the chopper blade onto the impeller shaft.
Thanks for all the advice and help that ya all gave, greatly appreciated it, and the machine is like I said running like brand new, even the tea stains in the cups are finally gone away.
