Whirlpool Timer Problem. Help!

I just got my Whirlpool DU8500XX-0 installed and ran it and I seem to be having some issues.

The timer is working fine but it gets stuck right past the light wash when the soap door opens. It is opening but it is not releasing then and leaving the latch go back. Once I turn the timer knob one click, the machine finishes the cycle by its self.

I really don't know what could be wrong.

Please help!

Just ran another load and timer stuck at the spot just before the soap door opened. I advanced it just a bit and it ran the rest of the cycle. I cannot figure out what is wrong because the can looks fine.

Maybe I need a new timer.

Does your machine have a temp delay to heat the water?

Yes it does but the book says only to 135 and the water is 140 going in. It also heates for the final rinse but it does not delay during that. Also i turn it 2 clicks and then it goes by itself.

This machine has a timer driven soap door relese. I'll bet door is binding stalling timer motor. Take dispenser apart clean it, might need new o ring .

I would run it without loading and closing the dispenser drawer.....just to rule out what is happening.....

your other choice would be to install a new motor......I had one develop a blank/pause spot during the wash....granted it would continue on, just never understood why this issue started....a new timer corrected it, never a problem since....

I had the whole thing apart and it did not seem to have anything that was binding it. I am not sure what is causing it. I will look again but I think I am going to need a new timer. My only problem is that the timer is no longer available.

Your dishwasher does have a thermal delay in the wash cycle try pushing low-energy Wash and see if it goes through the cycle.

It also has the delay in the rinse though, and it works just fine then.

I think I am going to just put a new timer in the machine.

Run it without closing det door, I'll bet it doesn't get stuck...

Am running the machine now with door open and it is still stuck. The picture shows the exact spot where it gets stuck.

If the timer is jamming wj at should I look for when I read it apart again

I have about the same dishwasher with the same timer dial, only in white. In the 22 years I have had it, it still works fine. Once I had a problem like that and something was not letting the 2nd wash cup open and stopped everything. Scrubbed it and restarted and it has run fine ever since after figuring out it was plugged solid in the left side vent when water flowed out of it on to the floor

Sticking Timer O A WP DW

You can also try pulling off the timer knob and cleaning around the knob and opening, these recessed knobs sometimes get sticky and bind, you can also try spraying some silicone lubricant in the timer to make it turn more easily.

 

What happened when you tried running the full cycle with Energy Saver Wash pushed?

well maybe as a last resort, you could purchase a whole machine, switch out the timer, and have plenty of spare parts as well......just a thought

Same thing happened on low energy. I just replaced everything behind the door except the timer. I also cleaned around the timer wheel. Tomorrow I am going to run it again and I will leave you know. In case it does not work, does anyone have the part number for the timer so I can begin the search forf a different one.

The repair was a success and the machine now works properly.
