Whirlpool TL 1994 stops mid cycle

Good afternoon,
I have a whirlpool TL heavy duty Super capacity washer from 1994 (I think)
Model Number LSV7233BW0
More and more often, I will find it stopped full of water
I assume it stops before the Rinse cycle; if that helps.
Google seems to think it's the safety switch on the lid. I have no idea.
All I do is advance the dial a bit and then it usually restarts.
After I push and pull the button on the dial of course.
Does anyone know what the problem is? And how can I fix it?

Does the timer advance all the way to Off and that's when you find it left full of water?  Or does it stop it at some specific point?  To where exactly do you turn the dial when you "advance it a bit and then it usually restarts?"

The rinse phase as a whole begins after the wash agitation time is finished, and comprises multiple actions including draining the wash water, spinning to extract the soapy water, refilling with water and agitating, then draining again before the final spin.

The problem occurs in all cycles, Regular, Perm Press (disgarding the brief pause that is supposed to occur at the Cool Down), and Delicate?

The lid safety switch is mounted beneath the top deck and depressed by a plunger on the right edge of the lid.  Is the plunger broken off?  Do you see the switch lever in the hole?  Do you hear a click when closing/opening the lid when the switch depresses/releases, or when pressing and releasing the switch lever with a pencil or some such?  The switch can break in a way such that it may sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.  The machine won't drain or spin unless the switch actuates.

If I put the dial at Super Wash, it will stop somewhere around the Heavy or before Normal section.
I advance it just a click on the dial and then restart it.
It will usually finish after that and the dial will go all the way to the beginning of the Off section
I haven't tried running any of the other cycles; but I'll try to do that this week.
The plunger is there and I hear a click when I press it with a pen.

I don't find a wiring diagram/timer sequence chart at the resources I can access.  User manual suggests that Super Wash/18 mins is a true, traditional Super Wash sequence of 2 (or 4?) mins prewash, pause, partial drain/pause, then refill and continue through the full Normal cycle wash time.  Do you use Super Wash often?  Any time setting of Heavy/14 mins or less is a full Normal cycle without the added Super Wash process.  There are three increments (6 mins) of wash time following the 8-mins hash mark.

I almost always use Super Wash. I'll try using Heavy and see if it stops

Ok, so far, I've only seen the wash stop mid cycle on Super Wash.
Heavy and Normal run to completion.
So, it's the dial itself?
What do you think?

P.S. I'll try the other settings hopefully this weekend

must be the timer motor thats broken i know something similiar happen on my old inglis superbII washer as it skip from first spin to rinse?

I think if you avoid the "Super Wash" portion of the Regular cycle you will discover that the machine will run as it should from beginning to end of the cycle. The other cycles should be ok. If you look at the timer dial any part of a cycle that has a solid line will be an Off point on the dial. If you look at all the other cycles none of them have any mark lines except for at the beginning and end.
Besides......any laundry you do in a direct drive machine will be cleaned very well in the 14 minutes that the Regular cycle offers!
