For a brief period, Whirlpool made non-HE VMW’s with a load size selector and a true agitator. Those machines used a full tub of water, but they did use spray rinsing and they did have temperature regulations.

This type of VMW was used on lower end models made from 2010 to 2015 and were made under various brands, including Amana, Roper, Admiral, Maytag, Crosley, Kenmore, and Whirlpool.

In my opinion, these VMW’s had the best cleaning performance.

Example of a Whirlpool VMW with a load size selector.

These weren’t as good as direct drives, but they were better than the current auto-sensing VMWs (although I have an impeller auto sensing VMW myself), but it doesn’t have the flat impeller so i get some blooming.

I had a Whirlpool CAE2795FQ I used for a couple of years. Water level was preset to the cycle you chose. In my honest opinion probably the best of all of those VMW washers.

No BS with those machines. They were the most straight forward traditional like washer I've ever used that was one of that design.

Except for the Normal cycle you could choose Hot water and get straight hot on all other cycles and the warm temp wash was more on the hotter side than cooler.

I really don't know why I got rid of it. The Maytag commercial is too much like the wash plate designs I think.

I know it's just like a head thing with me and perception but the Whirlpool commercial looks more traditional with the agitator shaft and porcelain wash baskets. Physically it looks like a direct drive.
