Whirlpool vs Samsung vs LG

Ok, so I was looking at all 3 at Home Depot, and I have to admit all 3 of the high end versions look good. However knowing nothing about LG or Samsung I am curious what you guys think of them. If you had to pick one as a daily driver, which would you choose?

Also, on a side question, what exactly is the proposition 65 warning about?

Just because these are the ones that have been tried and tested the most by people on here and have had good reviews by them. (Can only link to the verry recent discussion about HE DWs.)

About that "contains cancer causing substances" warning (that was that proposition 65 warning, right?): AFAIK that is mostly related to some heavy and rare metals contained in some of the electronic components.

The in-door silverware basket is where I guess most of the headaches come from, so I will probably order a separate rack if I eventually get the Whirlpool.

No, actually, the machine itself should never emit any cancer causing substances under normal useage conditions.

The note is - as far as I understand - just about containing them, because there is the theoretical chance of them somehow getting into the water.
You know, one of these "It could happen, but will most likely never" things.

I thought the plastics & rubber materials were the caustic cancer causing material... That is what anything w/ an electrical cord or one of those Made In China extension cords always warn me about...

most times it is nothing to threat over....or even waste minutes of your life that you will never get back.....

yeah, I am sure some people sit around all day long, causing anxiety over walking too close to an appliance that could cause cancer...

the last thing on my mind is worrying that my toaster could kill me......

most likely a better chance of being killed in a car accident.....but thank goodness, I didn't get cancer from my dishwasher......

this is the same type of hysteria over new meds on the market, and all the harmful side effects.....if a med offers any bit of relief, those side effects are the last damn thing anyone should be concerned with...most times, those side effects are nothing compared to what condition your dealing with....

enjoy life.....its far too precious, and short!

The WP 780 looks to be a gorgeous machine and is essentially my 920 but without the TotalCoverage arm and the SilverwareSpray zone or the spray zone at the back. To be quite honest, compared to the PowerClean and Voyager WPs with the silverware basket in the door, I've found only a yiblet here or there on a piece of silverware that was positioned just so that water couldn't get between, and I can count on both hands how many times that has happened in a little over a year. The spray bar is what vastly improves that configuration over past designs. But, I don't think it's necessarily a deal breaker either. As with the previous platforms, as long as you load plates towards the front and leave large bowls or pans for the back, so that nothing is completely blocking spray to the basket, you shouldn't have any issues with dirty silverware.

Ironically, the user that gave a raving review was the one to post a picture with a giant no-no in the lower rack, but again, the SilverwareSpray seems to alleviate that issue.

Here actually is the load from last night waiting to be unloaded this morning. Not a particularly packed BobLoad/RobinLoad, but they were fairly dirty with cookie batter caked and dried on the two big spoons. And I did a partial no-no with loading the pan and glass right at the front, but I've never had an issue doing that with this machine like I did in the PowerClean.

People have always sworn by the Whirlpools round these parts. A friend with the white version of the Samsung said never again--weak quality control in the electronics and poor washing performance when it did work. I have heard a lot about LG laundry appliances but not about dishwashers, and hope others chime in on this one as I'm curious.

I've had an LG dishwasher for the past year and am very pleased with the performance. My model has concealed controls and three racks. Huge capacity and very flexible racks; love the top third rack. The hybrid condensing drying system is very gentle and effective. Very, very quiet. It has a longer cycle time than the machine it replaced, but that does not bother me in the least.

I previously had a Whirlpool Gold that did a good job, albeit a lot noisier, and ran 15 years with no problems. Replaced it because the plastic tub was discolored and gross and the racks were falling apart. It had the in-the-door silverware basket which I hated. I usually placed the silverware basket in the bottom rack if there was room instead of in the door as it was designed.

I had looked at a Samsung model, but steered clear after reading some negative reviews.

Fingers crossed that this LG lasts as long as the Whirlpool.

Right now I'm trying to get through this tub of Cascade Complete w/Clorox (the "power" of Clorox, rather), and then Cascade Plat. rinse aid. My granddad found the Complete pacs on the clearance aisle at Walmart for $3 a tub and bought a stack of them, and gave me two of them. He's such an awesome guy . I typically go back and forth between the Complete and Platinum and find that with Platinum it's best to turn down the rinse aid dispenser to 1 and I get shiny streak free results. The Complete is more prone to leaving a few streaks on the bottom of the tub but it's never an issue for me because the dishes are clean and squeaky all the same.

I will give them a try. I tend to use those "all natural" detergents, and I have to admit some clean better when you don't fill the detergent cups all together lol. But yes, Cascade I trust.

Prop 65 Warning

When I was in the market for a new fridge-freezer I was attracted to a Bauknecht (= Whirlpool) fridge until I opened the door to get a blast of a very nasty chemical smell. Total dealbreaker ! Thought a new fridge will be at least for ten years in my closest environment so I want this to be as "clean" as possible. Ended up buying a much more expensive Liebherr fridge and I don`t regret it at all.
The Prop 65 Warning on the Whirlpool does not specify what chemicals exactly are concerned so it could be anything.
If you get seriously sick with cancer you`ll never know what did it to you. Could have been everything from the wrong choice of wall-to-wall carpet to PAHs in the plastic parts of an appliance.
We don`t have a Prop 65 in Germany but as a general rule I don`t buy any consumer goods if they smell like a chemical dump or as if the Chinese put in old car tires.
I`m by the way much more relaxed about scents in detergents and toiletries because I change products frequently, so I don`t get bored and exposure is rather limited. The documentary of the "Stink" thread didn`t scare me that much.

The new lg is a rockstar. Quiet, great performance. Whirlpool is just ok. Stay away from the Samsung

Lg just has a more innovative wash program. As a servicer I can say that despite the service manual being in korenglish, once you figure it out the machine it is infinitely more simple than the whirlpool.
