Whitening in the rinse

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

The oil-based early softeners could make white laundry look gray so the maunfacturers added bluing and brighteners, like in NU-SOFT which was one of the first "concentrated" softeners and not a question about softness in Yiddish. The unconcentrated softeners, like pink Sta Puf or the lower-priced Laundry-Fluf by Texize recommended between 1/3 to 1/2 cup per load. The weird flip-over fabric softener dispenser cup in our 58 Lady held up to 4 ounces. We did not use the concentrated softeners and they would not have worked very well, even diluted, because the cup flipped over as the timer advanced from spin to rinse and the softener was splashed onto the load as the tub came to a stop.

Most fabric softeners already contained some sort of bluing or OBAs to begin with, so not sure what is "new" about this version of Downy. Sides, with most laundry detergents loaded with OBA's, fabric whiteners, bluing and other brightening chemicals, adding still more to the rinse seems like over kill.

Moi? Will stick with regular old bluing.
