Ahh Krispy Kreme...
When I was at college in Fredericksburg, VA (2000-2004) the closest Krispy Kreme was on Broad Street in Richmond, an hour south. Sometimes on afternoons after class in the middle of the week, my friends and I would pile into my trusty '87 Volvo 240 because it was the oldest and highest-mileage car any of us owned. We had our our own tradition governing the acquisition of Krispy Kremes. First we drove there. Second, we went in the side door and we each picked a donut early on the assembly line. Thrid, we would follow our individual donuts as they made their way down all the conveyors, the fryer, the flipper, the other fryer, and the glazer. As soon as our individual donuts came out of the glazer, we would indicate to the person behind the counter which donuts we wanted. We would buy them and consume them on the spot, still hot, as god intended.
We also got a box of a dozen fresh donuts and coffee, which we would consume at the Krispy Kreme, because donuts just need coffee. Finally, we each bought a dozen more to take back to campus and share with friends. A 2 1/2 hour round trip in an ancient car for donuts!
I miss college,
