Who makes Whirlpool Duet?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I would sure hope so. I think we would know if Whilrly wasn't making their own machines... they are the "last" of the original automatic washers (companies) IMO and have always made for others (Kenmore)

Since WP started selling Duets in US market, they were made in Schorndorf, even before they were sold in Euro countries too.
If I'm not wrong just the Duet Sport is made by WP Mexico

My new May-Pool says "Made in Germany"

One thing I notice on the pic above that is very different from the American model. There is a clean out door for the button catcher. On mine you have to take the front pannel off.

BTW--I know there are some that think the Duet is a poor example of FL washers. I, not being a Whirlpool fan, love this machine. If this is the worst, it must be the best of the worst. Of course you can ask me how I like it in a few years, but right now--love it.

let's face it , this is globalization

from http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauknecht :

This more or less means :

"Since 1989 Bauknecht Appliances with its over 2000 employees belongs to US american Whirlpool Co. The works in Neunkirchen (Saarland) produce and delelope dishwashers since 1971. Since 1996 the WP european research centre for dishwasher developement is located in Neunkirchen. In Schorndorf there is the Whirlpool GLOBAL research centre for washers and dryers, where the high capacity washers for US market are made"

The odd point is they produce here in EU goods for US market while 1 euro = 1.50 USD ... Carlo shut up your mouth !!! ;-)

Yep, I was an intern in the R&D department there. :-)

And can you believe it? I forgot to bring my camera! *d'uh* Then again, some of these people were kinda like "Oh, I can't tell too much about it because it's secret!" And I always thought: "Yeah, like I'm gonna run over to Miele and tell'em..."

But for those who'd like to see the production site: just walk in - no one will stop you; all the doors are open...

Maybe because Swiss trade codes are different ... Whirlpool Switzerland states the country each model comes from. So just reading their brochure (link) i discovered :

- The new Carisma washers are still made in Italy as all eurosized FL

- Eurosize Dryers are french

- Euro (tumbling) Toploaders are made in Slovakia, no more in Amiens (France)

- euro dishwashers come from Poland, no more in Neunkirchen

- stoves (meaning oven+hob) are made in Italy

- Microwave ovens in China (once in Sweden)

- euro/no-french-door Fridges mostly in Italy and Poland, then Turkei, Brasil and China

@WPTrainee: I'd go crazy for kinda job ! :)

As long as they aren't made by Electrolux (Frigidaire). There is no contest between Duet and Affinity. Duet is the far superior and more capable machine.

Affinity Rex -Electrolux

Ralph, I just downloaded the manual for the euro version has just arrived here. I can't find the coin trap. Where is it ?

anyway, do agree with you. Duet wool/handwash is a wetcleaning-like cycle like in Mieles. The Affinity one is a old school,hi level wool cycle.
Pity, in EU E'luxes (AEG and Zanussi) has always been better than euro Whirlies

Affinities are no-frills machines compared to Duets. They offer fewer cycle options and rinsing action is poor. They don't even have a "self-clean" cycle, which is one of the most fun things to watch on a Duet. If we didn't have space limitations in my laundry room, we'd have Duets. I loved the pair we left behind when we moved last year.

I've not used either machine

but I'd put a lot more faith into an Electrolux made machine than a Whirlpool made machine.

I dunno about the large capacity U.S. machines, but of the standard size front loaders sold on the European market, the Electrolux made ones are definately of a superior build quality to the Whirlpool made ones.

Just my thoughts at least.

The problem with Electrolux i appliances n the U.S. is:

I had the Maytag Steam pair delivered with pedistals for half of what the Electrolux washer would have cost by itself.

If you have unlimited funds, by all means get the very, very best. If you have a budget, then you have to buy and pray for the best. I have not had wonderful experiences with Whirlpool appliances in the past, but the Maytag I just bought does a very good job. It seems well built, and it is quiet, efficient and relitavely quick for a FL machine. Again like I said previously, ask me in five years what I think, and the opinion may change. For now I am satisfied.

Ahhh yeah the actual Elextrolux branded machines in the US a

But the Frigidaire machines are all made by Electrolux too are they not?

Compare a Whirlpool to a Zanussi (Electrolux made) in Europe and I'm certain the Zanussi would be better made and more reliable.

Sure Electrolux is better than Whirlpool but even Antonio Merloni (Servis, Ardo...) is better than European Whirlpool machines, I can't speak for American.
My father put 2 Dreamspace machines (the first version of the European Duets) in his laundry to do water cleaning when there are things that can't go in the drycleaner. He got those because 2 of those cost less than replacing the motor on the wascator. They both failed after one year and half despite he got them for commercial use with the commercial (useless) warranty. Complete plastic rubbish that our old Merloni made home washer from 1994 is 100 times better and more reliable!
