Hi Group! What is everyone's opinion of this now-defunct product? I read in an article last week that this was one of Procter & Gamble's major failures. Although it supposedly earned $75 million+ in retail sales, it was stated that it was a product that really didn't stand out from other detergents. I loved the scent! Is there any other lemon-scented detergents out there?

I remember the commercial...

It showed someone running away from the police with bloodhounds, where he comes upon a cabin with a washer and dryer and Lemon Fresh Dash. He washes his clothes, and the bloodhounds lose the scent, and the man comes out of the cabin and tells the police he doesn't know where the criminal is. I liked the scent too, so I don't understand why it was a failure.

I bought and used it but was too connected and fond of their original formula.I was evidently not alone. They did the same thing with Cheer("All Tempa-Cheer"),Tide and Bold. The formulas as well as the scents were drasticaly changed and caused loyal followers to change detergents and other washing compounds.

Loved the old Dash! Only 3/4 cup, whereas the others were 1 1/4 cup. Great scent, too, and low sudsing.

There is at least one lemon scented detergent out there, but it's not easy to find lately. Tide in the beige bottle/box called Lemon Verbena. It smells nice, but doesn't leave much scent in the clothes. Works very well however.

In Canada, there's Tide and Sunlight (I prefer Sunlight's scent better than Tide's). When I was in Canada on vacation last year, I tried Sunlight Small & Mighty Lemon Fresh. It worked well and smelled good afterwards. For Tide, there's 2x Ultra Lemon Fresh liquid and Original Lemon Fresh powder. P&G is currently phasing out the Original powders, so I am uncertain whether or not the Lemon Fresh will continue as a Ultra powder.

I do remember Lemon Dash, although, I liked the original Dash much better. I also miss Cold Power put out by Palmolive. It was a great detergent in my opinion.

Not a bad product, but i was partial to the original concentrated low suds formula. The lemon Dash was quite foamy. I still have a box of the lemon Dash Ultra powder from the mid 90's. Haven't opened it yet though. I would bet that if one looked hard enough in some neighborhood bodegas you would find some. I spotted some liquid Lemon Dash around 2 years ago in a corner store in my old Ft. Greene neighborhood.

The other thing P&G did with Dash that might have been a mistake was to make it a "price sensitive" brand. That seems to be the kiss of death for many products (Rinso, Lifebuoy and Lux anyone?)

Although I've no earthly idea why they changed a formula that worked for them for God knows how long, Lemon Fresh Dash was set to take on its "nemesis" from Lever Brothers, Surf. I think LFD came out in either 1988 or 1989. It was also a "cheaper" brand as well. I liked it...it wasn't too bad on my laundry.

I used Lemon Dash in college in the late '80s. It came in a yellow bottle, with a forest green cap. The scent lasted forever in the clothes!

Liquid Dash has made a return to a local hardware store, in both regular and color-safe bleach formulas. It's really cheap, running only $3 for a 128 oz. (1 gallon) bottle. It has a generic soapy scent, and is a rather mild formula. For example, one full cap doesn't oversuds my Bosch compact frontloader.

By the way, I've enjoyed this site for about six years, but haven't posted in about two. I'm back as a happy, out gay man and am looking forward to chipping in my two cents where it makes sense!

365 Detergent

Whole Food's in-house brand, 365, has a lemon scent. They have powdered and liquid. I prefer powdered but the liquid product's scent lasts longer. It's about $10/$11 per package.
