Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Oh don't I wish they were SolidTubs.....although this is about the time they switched over, I had this same type control panel on a SolidTub version, with a porcelain tub, roughly a 76 model, this one appears to be early 80's, when Raytheon took over....Definately not a 210 degree agitation stroke, nor the 710 RPM spin.....

Actually where's JohnL.....I can't get the agitator cap off, it turns and turns, but does not come off, I thought at first it was the low hub shaft, but the cap is loose enough to lift the agitator where it is not tightened down.....I would hate to crack it off to see whats wrong.... agitator cap

one of my '84 SQs also had a loose agitator and a cap that would just turn and not
tighten or come off(same cap and agitator as pictured by Yogitunes)-had to crack
the cap off as the brass screw the cap is molded around was seized into agitator
shaft and spinning inside plastic cap-brass screw twisted off after cap was
cracked away...Agitator was damaged from being loose on drive block too.A parts
machine came along and supplied the needed parts.

Well I finally got the cap off......had to hold the cap while it was spinning, which caused it to melt the caps inside, and pop off, yeah it must have broke free from the bolt, which was really stuck on there.....I will probably epoxy it back together, and grease the bolt before I put it back on.....

I can't seem to locate an exact date on these....but I am probably guessing from the 80's...maybe 85.......I know the Marathon series was out then, and these are close to it......suprising that there was not a stainless tub....

TWINS....that was one reason I got them...a matched pair....which gets to be a little rare these days......

Raytheon never did the 210 arc........my solid tubs are, and so are the new ones by Alliance.....I wasn't sure about it, until I marked the caps, and then measured the stroke

Kudos to our DanManTN for making a video/link for us....he did one better with 2 color dots to see what how the agitator is doing a complete circle

mfg.date

for mine i looked at the date codes on the motors to determine the date, also one
machine had a sep.1984 date written on the back of the panel by someone.
Interestingly, one machine built around feb/mar.of '84 has an emerson motor, while
the later one,around july/aug.'84 mfg.has a GE motor...Both of mine,plus the parts
machine(also an '84,emerson motor)all have SS tubs-porcelain might be earlier,
i think 1981 was the first year of this design.

210 DEGREE ARC

Maybe I am missing something here but I agree with Peter, I have never seen any SQ washer where the agitator moves more than about 180 degrees and in looking at Martins video that is what I am seeing, that agitator is not turning more than 1/2 way around as it goes back and forth.

rim flo lint filter

not sure when the rim flo filter was discontinued, but my '84s have the rim flo
filter system-it's very close to the setup found on filter flo design hotpoint
washers, the flow delivered by a small filter pump built into the top of the belt-
driven drain pump

Fill Flume

The demise of the aerated fill was such a letdown for me. I loved that about the solid tub machines.

Other than that, these are awesome machines. An old Queen that still has her MATE is a rare find indeed.

Malcolm

Oh.....I am Malcolm 100% with the aerated fill.........they could have done a million changes to these machines, but left the fill alone, and I would have been happy..........even the new ones could have this, and I woud have been the first to purchase one, just for that alone!....

that fill is mesmerizing, puts you in a trance......someday I may hook up a pump just to make a ST fill and over flo....over and over....like a waterfall birdbath....
